I've been having a stuffy nose for about a week straight and this is pissing me off. I've taken Claritin and nasal decongestant meds and they only for a short while. What perscription drugs out there that are stronger? No I don't have a cold because it's in the summer and I have no other cold symptoms.

Zyrtec works the best for me. I use Nasacort as well during certain times in the year (pollen, etc...)

Claritin works like a *charm* for me.

One pill a day is all you need, but it may take several days of taking Claritin for it to reduce your body's allergen reactions to a comfortable level. I'd suggest giving Claritin at least a week before looking into prescription allergy meds. Also, generic Claritin (loratadine) works just as well as the branded stuff and is much cheaper.

Good luck! :thumbsup::D

Yeah..I've been using Claritin and sudafed for my nasals. It's been going ok. I think I might try that Zytec in a couple days if it doesn't let up.

The best is benadryl. Take 4, and no more allergies. Unfortunately, it also means no more consciousness. Clariton is good. Suprisingly, booze is also a good option, however, that's mostly due to the reduced awareness, not any real symptomatic relief.

Zyrtec is without a doubt the most effective antihistamine in existence. Unfortunately, insurance no longer covers it in many cases, and it's close to $100 a month. Die, Blue Cross.

Claritin is what I use now, but it is nowhere near as effective.

Zyrtec essentially eliminated my allergies, Claritin merely lowers them. Benadryl would be great if it didn't make you fall asleep within 30 minutes. Sudafed helps with the congestion, but it's better to eliminate the cause... ever tried allergy shots? Neither have I :)

I'm thinking about looking into it though... I'm allergic to everything alive outside between August and December, most shedding dogs, and 99% of all cats.

Sudafed - Ephedra - Brandy

Take your choice. (ephedra works good for me)

The absolute best thing to prevent your sinus symptoms from allergies is a nasal spray such as Flonase. If you haven't tried it, I can't recommend it any higher.

Completely beats the hell out of any pill or OTC medication.

EDIT: Take note that I said "prevent"... The OTC stuff is reactionary, which (if you are anything like me) just doesn't matter once the symptoms have set in.

Other helpful tips...

Shower before bed, and get all that nasty pollen off of you.
Wash your sheets/pillow case very frequently.
Wash your hands frequently.

Sudafed, non drowsy version. Those warnings about the regular stuff are no joke.

I used to suffer from hayfever every year, tried a variety of over the counter/prescription tablets and sprays with varying degress of success but over the last couple of years I have found that eating locally produced honey makes a huge difference. The only problem is you need to start doing this about 1 month before the start of hayfever season for it to be fully effective.

go to the doctor's and get some allergy prescription. the OTC stuff is fine but it's not as strong as some newer ones.

other than that, there is nothing much you can do. but feel better: the allergy season is almost over i think.

Nice postage!
I'd only add that a quick hair wash in the sink will take care of most of the problem. I do that rather than run thru the shower, If I get hammered by allergies while working out in the yard.
