What meds boost concentration?

What meds help with concentration besides Ritalin/Adderall and it's copycats/derivatives (ie: Concerta)?

cocain which is chemicalogically no different than Ritalin.

Caffeine and nicotine also help concentration.


I was one focused(and wired) college student. :p (Coffee, a bagel and a newport. The breakfast of champions.)

Modafinil, or the Adrafinil/Armodafinil derivatives. (would not recommend Adrafinil due to mild liver toxicity)

Either one of those should provide better results. Modafinil's 'side effects' are elevated mood and improved cognition. Ritalin/Adderall's side effects are less than pleasant.

It is also used to help you stay awake during work hours for people with work schedules that interfere with a normal sleep routine (shift work sleep disorder-SWSD).

It is not known how modafinil works to increase wakefulness. It is thought to work by affecting certain chemicals in the brain that control the sleep/wake cycle. Modafinil does not make up for lack of sleep and should not be used to treat tiredness or hold off sleep in people who do not have a sleep disorder."


sounds like an anti-narcolepsy med, and not a concentration med?

Actifed (or its generic equivalents) used to work for me, but it's difficult or impossible to get now.

I took this medicine before, its also known as Provogil. It does help you concentrate, it is really neat because you feel tired but the need to sleep is completely diminished. I dont think ive ever felt that motivated to do things like reading w/e.
I heard it works on the histamine receptors in the opposite way that most anti-histamine medications work, like diphenhydramine; which normally make you sleepy.

Provigil is the official brand name for modafinil. There are generic manufacturers of the drug, if you want to save lots of cash. If you won't be using it regularly then just go with Provigil, if you want to make a habit out of it, it's better to go generic.

Provigil is the official brand name for modafinil. There are generic manufacturers of the drug, if you want to save lots of cash. If you won't be using it regularly then just go with Provigil, if you want to make a habit out of it, it's better to go generic.

I take provigil and was told by the pharmacist there currently is no generic for it. If you do take it be prepared for a hefty price tag. It is about $500/month if you are taking the recommended 2 pills per day.

But yeah, it really works well. Even the colors around you seem to brighten up a little when you take it. You'll feel motivated to do things you've been putting off for weeks and you'll be able to exercise for hours.

I believe there are no generics for Provigil (modafinil). I could be wrong.

It runs about $60 a month for 200mg/day with my Rx plan.

Taking the pharmacist's word for is remarkably naive. Sun Pharma is probably the most reputable generic modafinil manufacturer. But if that's not cheap enough, you can even get powder form for a fraction of that cost.
