what MB for a amd 1.4

substance

im currently looking at getting a 1.4 ghrz amd athlon, and needed to know a good motherboard to get for it that supports ddr ram, and is top of the line, id like any opinions on brands and models and where to get both the processor and MB for a good price

i just checked, the ABIT KT7A-RAID doesnt support ddr and the Epox 8K7A or Epox 8K7A+ (RAID Version) are out of stock at newegg.com any other store suggestions or other MB suggestions?

The KT7-A is a very good board but is quite pricey and sometimes hard to find, if it were me I would go with the ECS K7S5A its goes for between $65 and $75 and is as fast or faster as the more expensive MBs, the one drawback is no RAID but a lot of people won't use it anyway for thier home system. Of course if your looking for top of the line and money is of no matter the Abit KG7-Raid will supposidly be available very soon.

But don't plan on overclocking with an ECS board, otherwise I've been hearing its quite good.

the ECS K7S5A is an excellent ONLY if you're not overclocking...it has no voltage, fsb, or multiplier tweaks/adjustments.
otherwise, you don't get VIA southbridge issues, probably the best DDR chipset performance (and SDR for that matter), onboard LAN, and it costs half of what other boards cost...cheapest i've seen it is 62.50..newegg (i believe) has it for 65.

if you want tweak options, Epox makes both an excellent 761 and kt266 board...check the soltek SL-75DRV as well...good inexpensive board w/ all the tweak options.

According to a recent review I read located at

http://www.ocworkbench.com/

it is possible to adjust the FSB seeting for the board, but not the voltage or multiplier. Since I haven't got my hands on one yet it is possible that the reviewers have made a mistake but I doubt it.

i cant find any of these motherboards on newegg.com that are in stock are there any other sites for the same price or is there another good stable motherboard i could get?

I would personally avoid that board because it has the ALi Magik 1 chipset which is the poorest performing DDR solution out there. It even performs worse than the KT133A chipset which uses SDR RAM.

How about Abit KG7? Here in Sweden it will be avaible at end of august, over in states prolly earlyer.
