What makes people think they are entitled to more, or that they are special?

Is it race? Do people of a certain color think they are entitled to be treated better, entitled to certain jobs, entitled to easier access to goods?

Is it money? Does having wealth make you any more better than anyone else, or is that an illusion conceived by society? If it is an illusion, then why do we continue to fathom over the rich?

Is it family? Does being born into royalty make you better, or was it just chance that your last name is Poppenbautem?

Or is it some psychological thing, as if your brain was wired so that you believed you were better than others, more entitled than others? Some people might just think that they deserve more than others or are more perfect than others, but are they really, or is that a placebo effect that they've induced onto themselves?

Is there even a thing as being better than someone else, or is that created by society?

No, I'm not smoking the reefer.

I'm white and you're not.

But no really, the only reason I think I'm more special then the majority of the worlds population is because I'm not a dumbass.

Anyone who uses "by society" in their statements loses me. If you're talking like that you're talking out of your ass.

Didn't your mommy tell you, everyone is special in their own way.

elitists, silver spooners, some people are born and raised to think they are entitled.

EVERYONE'S A WINNER! Until they find out they really suck and then go on a shooting spree.

Being better than anybody else is dependent on the criteria you base the comparison on. Someone may be better off financially but be worse off in other ways. I think having a strong self worth contributes to the sense of entitlement. If you love yourself why shouldn't others love you just as much?

It is how they are brought up by their legal guardians, be that parents or what not. The early nurture period is what teaches people who to react when they see something that is different, and gives them the naive prejudgment. (If the parent is biased, the child most often copies until the child learns for 'better' or 'worse')

If the person is wise, they think things through more logically before making a judgment call, but that wisdom comes from experience and careful upbringing by the parents/legal guardians.

What makes med school graduates think they are more entitled to be doctors? What makes Shaquille O'Neal think he is more entitled to be a basketball player?

The OP needs to be more specific by what he means by "entitled." Because while there are many artificial constructs of entitlement (like being born into royalty), it is also true that natural talents are not given out equally.

My father is a construction superintendent. We have always been lower/middle class. He was proud when I was putting in a hard day's work, learning a trade, and supporting my family.

My friend's father is an attorney and real estate broker dealing in commercial properties. He is a millionaire. His father won't ever be proud until my friend is also a millionaire. They aren't snobby, but they certainly have a different view of life. So I would say upbringing and social status certainly plays a large part of it.

I was the ruler of an entire GALAXY in a former life--if you don't think that's reason enough for me to feel entitled, you shall suffer horribly when my Empire rises from the ashes of civilization. Oh, yes, most horribly indeed.

we all start the same, egg + sperm

then our equalness starts to diverge

we may be 'created' equal, but we aren't all equal
