Never liked MMORPG's but I did play Anarchy Online for about a month and hated it.(Not enough time to screw around) I might get into World of Warcraft just because Blizzard always makes quality stuff but that would be my only reason to actually invest in a MMORPG.

I learned not to praise a game before it came out...
As to SWG, minus the first day and some annoying bugs, the first couple months were fun.
After that, it became repetitive.
Yes, they try to add contents to the game, but they only last a day if you decide to do it.
Also, the path to Jedi is a joke.
It rewards people with no life...
Some games can have alot of different ways to gain experience/have fun/adventure. For example the star wars galaxies exp system was mission based. You could get a mission, go out and do it, come back. And repeat. It was very repetitive and involved little to no exploring, all the environments were basically the same as well (desert like). In SWG you could become a dancer/healer and gain exp, but that is super boring since all you do is sit in a bar and dance. There is really no deviation from the mission experience.
As for everquest, you COULD do quests/missions, or you could just go out and kill stuff. Or you could explore as alot of the lands are different in everquest and they actually make it fun going out to look, I remember the first time going to the desert of ro and seeing the sand giants I nearly pissed myself. Plus eq has a great grouping system to alleviate some of the repetition.
In the end it all comes down to how the game is setup and how it handles social activity and experience/item gaining (In my opinion.) Sometimes I feel like going at it alone and its fun, sometimes I feel like grouping, sometimes I feel like going out and seeing the land. Alot of people like to craft and make items/weapons, which helps. Another aspect is the Player vs player (which I don't care for) which is why Dark age of camelot is pretty popular, it has a huge pvp element which alot of people love (even though other than the pvp element it's your basic run of the mill mmorpg.) So there is something for everyone you just gotta look around.

Personally, I was excited over FFXI until I bought the game and installed it. Other than the 1 hour install, and subsequent 2 hour download of updated files, the install section was easy.
Then I got to the UI. You could tell the game was made for a gamepad, and that adding keyboard support was some kind of afterthought. When comparing it to EQ, a game released years before, it was geniunely terrible. That alone was enough reason to never play it again. Then there is the solo play. I don't like to group with other players, I rarely have time to take 3 hours and find a solid group. When I play a game I want to get right to work on the long, boring exp grind. In FFXI, no class can solo effectively between 15-30 and only 1 class can solo well after 30 (Beastmaster).
Oh, lest we forget the huge population of Japanese high level players who don't speak English and generally look down on the Americans infesting their game (and they should, we are all newbies and they are the 1337 vets).
I shouldn't be comparing it to EQ, and maybe that's the fatal flaw in my argument. Nonetheless, FFXI gets a big thumbs down from me. Looks like I'll be waiting for EQ2 in six months or so.

I played Asherons Call beta and the retail. Awesome game.
I just found to really enjoy the theme of the game (like the history they created... the types of monsters... the types of 'people' you could play as).
I also really liked the fact that the land was HUGE. I think AC had a 10,000 square mile land base? It was also seemless (there were no loading screens like in EQ when you would venture through the land).
Lots of land and dungeons to explore, lots of quests, cool weapons... cool towns. Neat magic system. Neat events the developers would come up with (Such as events for certain holidays like Halloween... or monster invasions).
I eventually left because there were far too many people starting to macro and use glitches to enhance their character. Lame fvcks.

For me it's the people. A local friend of mine and I started our own guild on DAoC (was the first MMORPG for both of us) and we bumped into some really great people that I maintain contact with even after I stopped playing.
Hell, for that matter, I still keep in contact with some of the people I befriended back when I was playing text-based MUDs.
