There are rednecks everywhere. Even in New York!! *gasp* :Q

315 area code is NY States designated redneck location.

Wiki:

In the greater Rochester area, the term "315er" is an insulting way of referring to residents of the rural area east of Rochester. The term was popularized by Alan Levin, a.k.a. Brother Wease, a host on radio station WCMF in Rochester.[1]

And you thought I was joking ;)

it's that raised pickup truck on 35" tires that make you a redneck.

I use it....There are times when you can't get to my in-laws without four wheel drive+chains + lift to get you through the drifts.

btw i'm j/king ... :p

Nope, not even close, expecially considering the fact that not all your rednecks are caucasian to begin with. ;)

Heck no. I've met rednecks that are millionaires. And white trash that are 100% city folk.

I would consider Crab Man to be white trash, even though he isn't white :D

People tend to confuse the term redneck and white trash too often.

not to much. rednecks are more... how should i put it, decent. they live a normal life, with good income, but love the token stereotypical activities, ie hunting, fishing, drinking, race tracks, etc. my family falls under that.

white trash, aka, trailer trash, not to say anything about op's brother, are the cheap kind you picture at walmart late at night in wife beaters and wives with no bras on. the kind that scrape by life on the bare minimum, and do not strive for any better.

huge difference.

Did you see my bro and his wife (or my sister and her husband) at Walmart last night? (lol, that is totally the truth...luckily not all of my family is white trash, just most of us)

That would preclude you from being a redneck because it assumes you had teeth to begin with.

Edit: Actually better would have been, "Did you loose your tooth opening a beer bottle?"

Indeed. Rednecks abound, but I have found these categories to be pretty useful in labeling them

1) size of county in which they dwell (the more rural, the better)
2) level of education attained
3) maximum distance ever traveled from county of birth
4) education notwithstanding, ability to think outside of the main reality that they know
(knoweldge of world affairs, as an example--or at least a separate news source in addition to Clem at Piggly Wiggly)
5) political affiliation (it's pretty safe to say that the majority of rednecks are conservative...even though it's the party that wants to screw them the most :) )
"You can take my money as long as you stay out of my business!"
6) degree of Racism/Bigotry
7) Type of dwelling (the trailer is typical, but there are plenty of wealthy rednecks)
8) number of guns owned

your brother sounds like a redneck (although no details concerning some of these categories provided...), and I'd say you just need to get in touch with your roots. I kid, I kid ;)

you know what...this probably is more accurate for white trash; I know plenty of decent rednecks...which is why I rank the stereotypes at the bottom.

Oh BTW, here are some "official definitions of Red Neck"

"Definitions of redneck on the Web:

a poor white person in the southern United States

In modern usage, redneck predominantly refers to a particular stereotype of whites from the Southern United States. The word can be used either as a pejorative or as a matter of pride, depending on context. See also Hillbilly

How can there be so many posts in this thread when the answer to the question proposed is in the 2nd post? What's all this yammering on about area codes and locations?
