What makes a good case?

I'll be building my first pc soon and I've been browsing pricewatch and newegg for a cheap case. I started seeing so many cases with really nice paint-jobs and mods selling for dirt cheap. I also saw many seemingly ordinary cases with bland features selling for twice as much.

I ask you this:

- What makes Antec cases so special? Why do they go for $100 when they come with no mods or even a power supply?

- Are cheap cases like Aspire and Dynomax to be avoided? I know the psu they come with is just a crappy power-up, but if you're not going to be doing any serious modifications/additions to your pc after building it are they worth looking at? Or are they built so poorly that they're a pain to work with?

PS: If you have some recommendations for a cheap, midtower w/ a little flair I would love to hear them.

antecs, cooler master, and lian li's are among the best makers. there are many reasons why they cost more. they include reliability, durability, quietivety, better documentation, more features, higher quality parts, and more. crappy power supplys are literally crap. they are loud, unreliable, prone to failures, and are weak. a quality 300W psu is better then a 450W generic crappy one. the cheap cases only make themselves look good so that people can buy them. if they cant match the top companies in anything, they try to cheaply make the case look cool. in other words, its a way of ripping people off. its part of marketing. i used to buy cheap cases and psu's like that, but not any more. i cant name one good thing that comes out of a cheap case and psu. how much do you mean by cheap for a mid-tower?

Most of the cheaper cases hold together fine, its just that if you look close their build quality isn't as nice, meaning the small details are a little less atractive. One other thing is that the cheaper cases, while they may not look it, are smaller than the higher end cases.

Im trying to spend no more than $100 on case + ps + fans, but I'd really like a case that stands out a little from the cookie-cutter white boxes.

I'll be putting together an amd 64 3500+ on an abit k8t800pro board. Its only going to have 1 ide 7200rpm hd, 1 dvd burner, a wireless card, 512mb ram, and a radeon 9800XT. I've been told 350w is adequate for this.
