What makes a computer able to standby?

I have an old 366 Celeron that used to be able to go into standby with Windows ME. I recently pieced it back together and installed XP but it will only hibernate, no standby option. I have APM enabled and the option to use the power button for sleep/awake selected in the bios.

This happened once before w/ my PIII-800 but somehow fixed itself. I can figure it out.

Somewhere in the BIOS power management section there should be a selection for something like "S1" or "S3" that defines what happens when your system goes to "sleep". That's about all I know, I haven't ever cared. 🙂

Hmmm...I wasn't aware of that option being in the bios will have to take a look as my system just goes off while still being on when I standby....if you know what I mean, it won't come back out of standby! Annoying when I accidentally hit the standby button on the keyboard instead of mute!

512mb (PC2100) on Windows XP....Don't have the iTouch software installed for my Logitech keyboard....hmm...don't think that could be it though.

You have enough memory. Might be a driver conflict, but I doubt its iTouch not being installed. Actually the older versions of iTouch gave me a lot of problems. The newest one seems ok though.
