what maintenance do you have to do on NEW cars?

I'm just curious... I've never owned a new car until my '03 lancer that I have now. What regular interval maintenance must be performed? Oil changes I know.. but what else? What should I check/have serviced (before it breaks)? There's about 600 kilometers on the car so far so i'm not worried just yet.. 😛

Your car's OWNERS MANUAL!
No kidding, but that's in my car, and it's 4am. I'd much rather see what others have to say from personal experience while I'm sitting here, before going to bed. Checking the owner's manual is just something anybody should do, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't ask a similar question anyway.

asshat 😛

the first car that i owned which was 95 nissan altima got it new i didn't do any maintenace on it and i would still be driving it, if not for it getting totalled. I am looking for some answers to your question as i am undecided if i should do regular maintennace on my 2003 hond accord or not.

To do, or not to do.. maintenance on a 18,000$ piece of equipment..

HMMM..... Don't rack your brain too hard on that one.

I once knew someone who drove his civic without oil.. needless to say that engine didn't last very long. 😛

yes, he is. reference: every post the poor guy's ever made. ::shakes head in pity::

ylen, do yourself a big favor and take the car in for its maintenance stops. there's a lot more to a car than oil changes. things like valve lash, brakes, belts, hoses, etc all need to be adjusted/changed/inspected for your car not only to "run perfectly fine" but to be safe for yourself and others on the road. you bought one of the most reliable cars on the planet, and that's why it cost more than a Hyundai. if you want to get the value out of the extra money you spent, you better not let it destroy itself. it will run forever, but only IF you take care of it from day one.

thanks for the post, you are correct that i need to do maintennace on the car.

I do regular maintenance on my vehicles, but my father is a little different. He is one of those "If it has oil in it, it is good" mentalities. He puts on 150,000 miles in about 3 years, same as me. He bought his current car, MAzda 626, and he has 102,639 miles on it since the last oil change. 🙂

He usually gets about 250-300,000 on a vehicle before they are needing replaced.

because everyonerwill tell you it doesnt work and the hondas i see are more like 20-23. and the reason you do mantanance is because a honda will last "forever" why spend 20k every couple of years if you can own a car for 20?

well i personally have no intetion for owning the car for more then max of 5 years. With technology changing so much so fast i personally don't want to drive the same car for next 10 years

Dur. If you want the car to stall out in the middle of the highway...sure. Or if you want one of your tires to blow out killing you and 10 others behind you while driving...sure. Or maybe blowing a engine rod through your hood because the oil turned to tar. ..sure.

I don't want to drive the same car for 10 years either, but for different reasons.

I want to get older cars, not newer cars. In my ideal world, my next car would be a 69 mustang...

why would you want to drive the older car that lakes alot of new technology such as airbag, abs brakes, traction control, navigation system etc?
