With other AMD processors, the EPOX mainboard was OK...

Is this OK with XP series?

Yeppers, 8KHA+ is (for the moment) the best KT266A board. Abit may take the crown though soon w/KR7A

I have the Shuttle AK31v3 and love it. It's rock solid and very fast - not to mention cheaper than the Epox board. Why not save the $$. I've also heard of some minor issues with the Epox board, but none with the Shuttle board. Also my personal experience has made me a shuttle fan.

There are (actually) several "issues" with both boards. The Shuttle has voltage regulation trouble, as well as problems when all 4 DIMM slots are populated. I can confirm these issues firsthand, both on the AK31A I have in-house and the few others I've worked with in the last 2 weeks. They work well, but they do have issues. As for the 8KHA+, people are reporting a slew of trouble -- from the infamous "NO POST!!" to spontaneous reboots and the like which could mean voltage regulation issues ala 8K7A. Right now, none of the KT266A boards are reliable enough (IMHO) to purchase. You're far better off with either AMD761-based boards (KG7, 8K7A, et al) or SiS 735. And SiS 745 is just around the corner.

Shuttle really has one issue - voltage regulation. It will be prolly fixed in the next BIOS revision, but if you don't want to wait you can do a simple mod (no soldering necessary or anything that will make a permanent change to the mobo) to allow the mobo to set vcore voltage to >1.85. Sorry, I lost the link to the mod. Anyway, the last "issue" is when all four memory banks are populated. This is not shuttle specific thing as it is very hard to get the memory timings right with so many banks with any mobo and it is an achievement in itself that shuttle included 4 banks on the ak31. Anyway, in the kt266a roundup it was pointed out that if you want to populate all the banks you will need to select less aggressive memory timings and all problems go away.
