I always loathed their music, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I wonder what tormented him? Did he suffer from addiction like so many other suicidal artists? [edit] I read the article and it seems to be a likely factor. [/edit]

I suppose we're going to hear a lot more Linkin Park now.

crawling in my skin, these wounds they will not heal

too true

WTF How do you not quote "In the end" when the lead sing of LP commits suicide??

It starts with one thing
I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
All I know
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It's so unreal
Didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on, but you didn't even know
Wasted it all just to watch you go
I kept everything inside
And even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me
Will eventually be a memory of a time when
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter

This sucks I was just going to see them in August. I'm a big fan of Linkin Park since I was younger.

Wiki is a harsh mistress. Mr. Bennington is already moved to the "former members" section of the Linkin Park page.

RIP, i always found he has an amazing voice. He could express emotions very good. Although the most popular songs i know of (and have) create a sense of despair when listening to it. I like those songs anyway.

Linkin' Park - In the end
Linkin Park - crawling
Linkin Park - Breaking the habit
Linkin Park - What I've done
Linkin Park - Somewhere i belong

He's had a tormented past. The music was an outlet and kept him busy. Like most who hit a milestone @ 40, he's 41 I'm sure for awhile he's been re-evaluating to avoid a midlife crisis. Though he's done more than most at his age honestly. Chris Cornell suicide in May didn't help things either.

Crawling was their best song by far. But they had lots of good ones. RIP. Any news on the guy as to why he killed himself? Drugs? Depression?

Most likely depression. He has had a history of alcohol and drugs but mostly depression which most people don't realize is a disease.

So he suffered from Depression? That's rough. I flunked out of college due to that, well, mostly.

Now, I've got an arguably worse condition, but I'm on some pretty heavy meds to help control it.

Sometimes, life is ... harsh. I'm lucky I have supports.

Edit: But this thread isn't about me. RIP, my man. GREAT music. Very tormented, very emotional, very real. Ironically, listening to it helped me through some low times myself.

It's reported on rolling stone too so I'm guessing it's legitimate.

It's unfortunate that so many musicians struggle with their own inner demons that allow them to write music that we view as entertainment, but of which that pain often is just hidden. It's the same as comics who struggle with depression and use humor as an outlet for validation, rather than self realization.

Yea there's a reason most of his songs were sounding very sad or desperate. I'm upset I never got a chance to see them live until this summer but looks like that won't happen now.

Wonder if it had anything in conjunction with how shitty their latest album was heh.

RIP though, I went out to see them multiple times when they were live in my area. He didn't seem to be the emo type all that much - at least not in the public eye.

Curious what he has to be depressed about though. I mean as far as friends, you have an entire band of people that I presume care very deeply about you.

Everyone gets depressed but those clinically diagnosed have it worse. Almost anything can set them. Used to date a girl who later was diagnosed with manic depression. Would explain a lot of her behavior.

So whats the answer then? Whats the cure? We all know it's not depression pills, that only makes things potentially worse - especially because all of them have a very big warning that they can cause suicide.

It just seems odd - I was reading on the TMZ that he was supposedly abused by an older adult as a kid, I'm sure that has something to do with it. I would just think you would be able to overcome sad thoughts by realizing how far you have come. I honestly can't think of a bigger and more well-known still touring band other than maybe Metallica. They have won awards out the ass as well, etc...

There's no real answer. Most people can get help but the first issue is recognizing the depression is a problem enough to go and get help. Lots of people fear people will think they are crazy or will be looked down on for admitting to a mental illness. I get depressed usually but it's nothing like that where it's constant.

There's different variances of it and most of he people that commit suicide from it have the most serious case.
