What level do you start out on?

Strict shooters I'll start on the hardest setting. Exploration/rpg etc. I'll usually go for medium setting just to enjoy the atmosphere.

I usually play strategy games and choose the normal setting - the setting where neither I or the AI gets any bonuses beyond the standard game rules

Depends on the game. Racing games I start off on easy, because I suck at them. Games like starcraft 2 I started off on hard, then after beating the campaign did it over again on Brutal. God of War 3 I did on normal, then Titan, then started playing Chaos and got about half way through and haven't picked it up in a while to finish. RPG's I usually play on the hardest difficulty possible right off the bat.

The only shooters I play are multiplayer, so there's no real difficulty to set.

Strategy games I play in between hardest and normal, but not the hardest as that usually just frustrates me.

RPGs I play on easy because I like to enjoy the story more than the killing.

normal. Not because I can't beat the higher difficulties, but I hate dying and having to replay parts over again.

LOL!

I'm on ZEALOT in DeadSpace 2 and have NEARLY completed a room like 15 times but die! I finally had to walk away for a while...(which is what prompted this thread).

Normal, then if i ever replay the game hard, im doing zealot in dead space 2 atm but its easier because ive got all the stuff i accumulated on normal mode :awe: Plus i know what to expect and where to expect it.

Usually the default/normal/middle. If I like the game enough to justify a second playthrough, then I'll try it on hard. But in a lot of games the hardest setting is just too hard. Like Mass Effect; I can do Hardcore with my eyes closed but Insanity is impossible.

Most of the time I will play a game through on normal, unless I've seen a review or something that states the game is too easy on the normal difficulty. Like MOH... Even on the hardest difficulty it was a cakewalk.

Unless there is a penalty for doing so (as in areas or items are locked off) I usually just go for easy or normal. I rarely play SP for the challenge, I play for story and immersion and I get no satisfaction from just having the game be more difficult, I play MP for a real challenge, not SP.

I have gone through Hitman 2 a couple of times as Silent Assassin, but that's more a style of play than a difficulty level. I like doing those kinds of things, but it's kind of different than just having stronger or more enemies.

Shooters average or hard. I could go through most on hardest, but it can get tedious. RPGs/Grand Strategy medium. I play them just to enjoy the gameplay. RTSs hardest. I'm not a particularly great RTS player, but I'm good enough that the hardest setting isn't particularly hard for me usually.

Depends on the games, but a mix of hardest or normal since some games at the hardest difficulty are so infuriating due to almost godlike abilities in strategy or sports.

Depends on the scale of difficulty. If it's just easy/normal/hard. I'll start on hard. If it has 4 or more with some unbelievable name for the highest (GOD KILLER).. I'll scale back to one above normal.

For RTS games, normal.

For FPS games, Hard. Hardest is just... dumb, IMO. I could do it, but it takes more effort than I can motivate myself to give when playing a game against AI.

For RPG games... nevermind, I have dignity. I don't play RPG's.

/flamesuit on.

For RPGs and RTS I play on easy, I'm not very good at those.

FPS usually hard.

Racing games, I usually play on the hardest I can find, but even then I don't have any difficulty completely annihilating the AI, so I try giving myself a handicap like picking one of the slower cars. Unless their handling sucks.

normal. I'm no masochist.

and I recently started a game of KB: Armored Princess. What. the. fuck.

"normal" = impossible if you choose mage class. I can barely hire a single freaking unit b/c you are so gimped with army size. the benefits for the mage class are only available way late in the talent tier (2x cast). It's freaking unbelievable. SO I run from island to island, trying to outrun everything, b/c every single army is designated "impossible" for me. what a joke.

there aren't even any powerful spells available in the early game to compensate for your gimp army. 🙁

I usually just leave it on normal, some of the hardest difficulties are just stupidly difficult. If after a while the game feels too easy I always have the option of bumping it up.

Hard except on RTS's, I do medium cause I just am not that great at em.

I did Veteran on CoD2 and Black ops.. man the pain & CoD world at war on Vet.. holy hell.

I usually play on normal, unless it's something I find I REALLY enjoy.

Most of the time, I'm playing as a tourist - I want to see all the sights. Once I find a game I'm crazy about, I pump up the difficulty.
