What LCDs don't get image persistence?

Two LCDs I've had out of three has been plagued with this issue.
First was a Dell 2001FP IPS screen
Now my Soyo PVA screen

The Soyo screen has really horrible image persistence. There are smudges all over the screen that stay there unless if I turn the screen off for a week or more.

I remember when LCDs came out, one of the advantages over CRTs that was touted was lack of burn in. Image persistence seems like a MUCH greater problem that burn in with CRTs ever was.

My LCDs are basically unusable after two years, well at least for the critical photoshop work I do.

My Dell 2001FP at work did develop minor burn-in of the Windows taskbar icons at the bottom-right of the screen after several years of use.

That hasn't happened with my Dell 240x yet after 2 years.

Op try this

to get rid of the memory images using "My Pictures Slideshow" that came with Windows .  All you have to do is to create 2 images with paint or any other graphics program.  Size is not important.  You can make them 640 by 512 pix, for example.  One image completely white, another completely black.  Put them in a separate folder.  Then select My Pictures Slideshow from screensaver tab on Display Properties and make it use images from this folder. Select minimal interval of 6 seconds.  Move second slider to use 100% ofthe screen and select "Stretch Small Images"
You can go here for some of the images

Fire it up and come back a hour later. It should be gone

Do you not use a screensaver or have your monitor set to auto shut off after a specified duration of inactivity?

wow I have never seen this on any of the LCD monitors I deal with. in fact I remember being ridiculed for even using a screen saver when I first got an LCD monitor.

it's real, I have a soyo pva that has a similar issues. Any pixel that remains full white for long periods of time shows up as darker on other colors. It isnt so much burn-in as lazy pixel switching and can be fixed, anywhere that gets frequent color change is fine. The full white screen screen saver isnt actually a bad idea. A friend of mine has a TN with similar effect.

the slower the switching effect the faster retention seems to occur. IPS/PVA are far slower than modern TN. but yeah set your power plan to shutdown the display - save yourself energy and life

While I do get the traditional image persistence, but I also get these streaks.

My thinkpad x41t is 6 years old and it doesn't have any of these issues at all.
So how does one shop for a monitor that doesn't get these issues?

you use forums like these and ask whats a good display that ain't got much issues

On [Hard]OCP, I read that overdrive use by a monitor model makes image sticking more probable. My 3yo BenQ 24" P/MVA has it, even with the bubbles screensaver always having been in use and the monitor going to sleep after 10 minutes. It's mostly the outline of my favorites bar that shows a bit. I also have streaks like those pictured above but fainter. I notice them mostly when I play Oblivion.

Trying the cure explained above all night but it's not helping much so far. A bit though so I'll keep at it.

The streaks are the real bothersome part. The image persistence rarely occurs since I use a screensaver and set my screen to standby after 10mins.

But the streaks doesn't seem to want to go away. It did go away when I went on vacation for two weeks and my screen was off the entire time. But it was back within two days of use.

I totally wrecked an NEC LCD2080UXi by leaving Operation Flashpoint on the escape menu for about 1 and a half hours. The black bars at the bottom and top never went away. I was shocked.

The replacement LCD2090UXi suffered.

At the time my 20" IPS Dell widescreen was more resilient.

Never had this issue on my 30" VA or my 23" TN.

The way I got round the issue was as already point out; use a screensaver with full screen colours alternating.

You would think gear that is built for heavy photoshop use would survive its intended purpose.
