What laptop hard drive should I buy?

From everything I've read so far, the largest/fastest thing I can buy is a 100GB Hitachi (Newegg has it for just over $100). I'm willing to pay more for it but I just can't find anything larger that's close to as fast.

Can anybody else help me out here? I checked Newegg, Fry's, and Mwave, all without luck, so I'm pretty pessimistic at this point. :(

In laptops you'll have to trade speed for size unless you really want to break the bank. You could always get the 100GB Hitachi and then get an external hard drive?

The Hitachi's are good fast drives IMO. I did have a 5400rpm model fail after 2 1/2 years of constant everyday use, but I replaced it with a 7200rpm Hitachi and it been great.

I was hoping you all had better news than this for me. Obviously I realize it's difficult to get large/fast laptop drives. I know some 240GB drives are now available but I don't think they're 7200 rpm. I also have seen some larger 7200 rpm IDE drives, but not SATA, so that's another one of my problems.

As for how much it costs, I realize I'm going to be paying for it. But that's fine, I'm happy to pay significantly for it. Given a 100gb 7200 drive at $110, I'd be happy to pay $250 for a 160gb 7200 rpm drive. Well worth it for me because it saves me time (external drives) and time is money.
