Haha, I have'nt had that in a couple years. Cold corned beef hash...... (Ahhh the good 'ole days) is great. I like it better cold than warmed. For those of you that have never tried it cold.............. Eat a cheap hot dog cold and you'll know. The grease sticks to the roof of your mouth **LMAO** Hey, when you're hungry, Pork/Chicken hotdogs and beans w/a side a ramen are your best bet.

Electric stove??
Don't own a grill?

I can't count the number of times I've just peeled the paper label off the can and set it right on the stove-top to cook, saving myself from washing a pan. Ditto that method for camping.

Personally, if I were preparing for having no power, I'd probably buy a few cans of sterno or something like that to use for simple cooking. Besides, what else are you going to do? It will at least help occupy a part of your time. Don't forget a manual can opener!

Nope, no grill. Any recommendations on a small battery or fuel-power stove? Only thing I've had in the past is Sterno cans :D

Something that I find quite filling and tasty: Armour Vienna Sausages (They have several varieties, but I find the "Smoked Vienna Sausages" the best).
Open the can, eat 'em with crackers or bread.
Oh yeah, they are also inexpensive when NOT purchased in a Convenience Store!

What CAN'T you eat right from the can would be a much shorter list.

Now what would you WANT to eat right out of the can might be the shortest.

What kind of boondocks do you live in that you are afraid of being snowed in? Someone should at least have a snowmobile if you really are in the middle of nowhere.

I'm sitting here reading your post while eating Spaghetti-O's with little hot dogs straight from the can, unheated.

Ditto on the manual can opener. No fun stuck with canned food and a useless electric opener.

Forget the battery, electricity conversion to heat is extremely inefficient. I've done a lot with stoves since I've been in the woods a lot and have been a minimalist and a maximus.
On the minimalist side I have a small Swedish or Norwegian alcohol burner. It's almost useless. I don't even think it will boil water. In the middle I have a MSR backpacking stove that burns white gas and it works great. The MSR multi fuel models burn dirty; I've owned them too. On the maximus side I have a white gas two burner Coleman stove which is incredibly versatile. I've used it for cooking as well as heating water for showers. Propane camp stoves do not provide as much heat, bang for the buck, or fuel storage space. You can do a lot of cooking with one gallon of white gas vs. propane. I recently cooked for a large crowd using the Coleman stove and people commented that it works better than their stove at home. I have several Coleman stoves, all from garage sales or flea markets. I bought another at a garage sale for $3.00 within the past year. Just keep a spare generator handy for that model and you are set. The generator converts liquid fuel into the vapor that burns.

Just about at the end of my 'Nam deployment, I would go to the BX and get a can of tuna, and a can of grapefruit.

I must have been Jonesin' for oils and vitamins.

Correction: electricity to heat conversion is extremely efficient. It just isn't economical. Nor are any of the means we currently have of storing electricity.

I just went all propane
bought an indoor propane heater a couple years ago, last year a second 20 lb bottle and this year a ultra effcient propane burner for cooking and a crank radio.
Next year I'll get a third propane bottle.
I have a gas BBQ and go through a bottle or two a summer so I just rotate stock.
60lb of propane could last me 9 days of heat if I had to run it 24/7. Any longer than that and I think all the other problems would set in. . . .

BOT We stocked up on canned fruit and soup , cause of my daughters allergies the rest of us would have a lot of choice but she wouldn't just based on what is in the pantry.
