What kinds of foods can you eat right out of the can?

Just wanted to pick up some spare food for winter in case we get hit with a big storm and don't have power, access to roads, etc. I'm thinking of things like tuna and so on. What are things you can just eat out of the can, no prep work required?

why does no power imply you'd have to eat it straight from the can?

Electric stove??
Don't own a grill?

I can't count the number of times I've just peeled the paper label off the can and set it right on the stove-top to cook, saving myself from washing a pan. Ditto that method for camping.

Personally, if I were preparing for having no power, I'd probably buy a few cans of sterno or something like that to use for simple cooking. Besides, what else are you going to do? It will at least help occupy a part of your time. Don't forget a manual can opener!

That doesen't bleed anything from the can lining into the food?

I think I actually need to think about stocking up on food myself....

One morning I got up to eat. I was camping. I'd ran out of fuel in my camp stove. I opened the can of Beefaroni, it was filled with 1.5 inches of thick grease. Beefaroni cannot just be eaten out of the can, unless you like slogging down grease.

if something was on the lining to begin with, it'd already be in the food.

chef boyardee, though the stuff reminds me a bit of canned dog food.
and well add any other canned stuff, its all cooked. survival food doesn't have to be that great. mostly worry about high sodium in canned food. well main thing is to store water

this sounds gross but I really like corned beef, straight out of the can with that layer of fat still stuck to it.

Campbell's Bean and Bacon cold is my favorite with saltine crackers if I don't have a cold pizza in the fridge that is ;)
As one said above, any type of canned soup you like warmed is just as good cold if you're hungry and not a wuss. Have'nt any of you gone camping before?

Technically anything thats canned should be ready to eat.. whether it's good [cold] or not is another question.

I used to eat Van Camps Spanish Rice in a can cold. It was good, green peppers, onions, and spices in tomato sauce. I haven't seen it around for 20 years. Does someone else know different?

OP, I just went back and read your post. I was stuck in a snowstorm in a teahouse in the Himalayas for three days while trekking. The guy made a fortune serving food and liquor. You might want to add some liquor to your survival cache.
