what kinda tools do you keep in your car?

a map, flashlight, and spare tire etc. but the most important thing is the card for the free road-side assistance program.

When I was younger and drove crummy cars I would keep a fair ammount of tools in the trunk.

Now days I don't keep any save for the tire iron and jack which came with the car, a flash light, a flare and a poncho.

AAA is something like $50/year.

Dont have anything in one car... only stock tools.

Other has a set of ratchets to open/tighten the battery terminals and jumper cable, besides the stock tools

Oh ya and Spider Swat!!

-jumper cables
-a battery boost kit (it has its own jumpers as well)
-tow cable
-sand
-2 shovels
-spare winter jacket and winter pants
-winter boots

I've actually had to use quite a few of those.
Everybody should have a tow cable, a shovel, and jumpers. When a car is off the road, only a tow cable will get you out. If you're in shitty snow on a residential road, you'll need a shovel. If your car won't start, don't assume other people have jumpers.

AAA is something like $50/year.
A couple months ago there was some -30C weather. At that temperature, all season tires are rock hard and people tend to slide off the road very easily. The average wait for a tow truck at that time was over 10 hours.

edit
You should also know exactly how to use these things. A couple days ago I was stuck on the side of the road and I needed to be pulled out. I couldn't see where the tow goes, but I could still hook it up because I knew where it was. When it's -30, you really don't want to start looking for the first time.

Just one.

Stock jack
Jumper cables
12v air compressor & tire pressure gauge
Tire patch/plug kit
two LED flashlights
1/4" drive 11 piece metric ratchet set
Lighter
Torx driver
Philips/standard driver
battery terminal wrench
small knife
Schrader valve wrench
multiple fuses
plastic tub in the trunk with various essential car fluids

I do need to add a blanket and a couple other things.

I live in a urban zone and it doesn't snow that heavily (if it does, it's one day where you'll be a few hours late but roads get cleaned fast).

I just have the card for on-road assistance, a cable to recharge the battery and a bottle of water.

Nothing. More weight, more clutter, more shit rolling around making noise, having to hunt for tools in two locations, etc. And more than one car, which one do I keep the tools in? I even removed the spare and jack. 40 lbs less and driving with that donut would be suicidal anyway.

I'm vigilant with maintenance so I can get away with it. Yes I check fluids and even battery about once a week or two. If something happens its going to be an unpredictable part failing, and having tools and no part on the side of the road does little good. Not to mention I wouldnt stop on the side of road and start tearing my engine bay apart anyway...

For example I already know my supercharger/alternator belt is on borrowed time but I know I can limp home without it if need be. I have a 12v tire inflator I take from time to time that's about it.

The tools that came oem.

LED Flashlight
Wrench
Screwdrivers
Hex driver
Tire wrench
SOS button

In honda, I got

Jack
Tire wrench
Tire repair tool
Screw driver
Pliers
Flashlight

I carry a small toolbox with a couple of screwdrivers, various pliers, wrenches, some fuses, double sided tape, box cutter, tire pressure gauge, Bic ligthter, and other random bits.

I have a flashlight or two in my glovebox. Jumper cables in the hatch area. On road trips, I'll bring a socket set. And of course the car has the stock jack/spare.

12v air compressor, tire pressure gage, couple gallons or water, couple cans of fix-a-flat, keys for wheel locks and lugs, jumper cables, small medic kit.

I don't carry a spare (won't fit over front or rear brakes) or a jack, hence the fix-a-flat.
