I'm modding my Video Card and was wondering hat kind of POT to use.

I have a Linear Taper 10k POT, but its only one turn. Will this work?

hmm... 1 turn 10k pot? so does that mean it either gives 10k resistor or zero resistance?

if that's the case, then NO DO NOT USE IT!!!

most videocard mods do call for a 10k pot but are adjustable.... at least 15 turns....

there are A LOT of good threads on video card mods over at xtremesystems.org.. i learned how to vmod my cards there

yeah...thats where i found the guide. I went to the local radio shack, and the POT is like one for an AMP (Like for volume).

So you can turn it in very smal increments. (like almost one degree ata time). I have some other POTs on order, from HOSFEL Electronics, maybe ill just wait till i get those.

The POT is weird though, because my voltmeter registers it as having only like 8.5 ohms resistance at MAX.

Thanks man.

Soldered wire to resistor (couldn't solder direct to chip to small, the soldered to the side of the resistor connected direct to chip) today, ao all i gotta do wen the POt comes is to solder it to the wire and then to my case (That will work for ground right? or should i go with soldering to a black pin from PSU?)

Thanks~

heehe.. this is not a good place to be asking about hardmodding your video card... not lots of people do vmods here..

what mod are you attempting to do?

usually, the small IC you are trying to mod has a ground leg that you can solder to or use various other ground spots that are found on the physical card. no need to solder to your case of psu ground (black wire).

The Card hasa molex connector on it, i will sodler ot that ground (in effect that would be the PSU ground, will this be OK?)

Like Shim said, I would solder the ground to the correct pin of the IC or else to a solder pad that connects to it.

i think you should be able to do that.

but try to find the ground leg or contact pad
