What kinda performance can I expect to see in NWN2?

Well...since people are struggling with higher end cards, I suggest you turn down the eye candy if you want to run it at playable frame rates.

If you want to play it at that resolution, prepare to get some frames below 30 FPS. Or maybe even lower. NWN2 isn't really optimized right now, I think. Its such a demanding game but doesn't really show it. :( I am disappointed.

I am VERY disapointed right now.

I'm done trying to jump through hoops to get it to work with SLI.

I'm hoping a further patch fixes this. :(

Just so you know on my RIG, with a 7950GX2 I barely get 30fps with low settings. (but more ppl with SLI are experiencing the same thing so)

Dark Messiah is not a true RPG like NWN2.
More of a FPS with RPG elements to it.

I enjoyed the demo very much.

I recommend you DL the demo for it and give it a try.

I don't think you will be disapointed.

Hmm, sounds kind of like Oblivion which I didn't particularly enjoy. I think I might go with Guild Wars: Nightfall when it comes out, will I have problems running that at max?

You will be able to run it fine, just turn off shadows and notch down the textures. My single X1900XT/A64X2 4200 gets 30fps outside and 60 inside, at 1680x1050. At your lower resolution and weaker video card, you'll have to to turn down textures more than I did, but you should be fine. You may have to notch down the res a little more too.

NWN2's campaign is pretty good so far, it will definitely be interesting to see what other people do with the toolset.

I think your system should manage near max settings(maybe some effects down) at 10x7, this is what I learn from NWN2s forums. But patch games like NWN2 or Gothic 3 if you want decent performance.

It's more like HL2 or Deus Ex than Oblivion. The "RPG" part is simply that after you kill enough bad guys, you level up and can then use "points" to learn a new spell or ability. There aren't any side quests to do or anything like that. VERY linear. But, either way, it's great fun. The first time you decapitate a bad guy, have his head fly across the room and knock his partner into a fire, killing him as well, you'll WISH for a true RPG with this type of combat system. Kicking is overpowered though... try to resist the urge to continually kick baddies into the inordinate number of spike racks standing around.

edit: To address your original question, some people are having trouble with NWN2 and some are not. It's definitely not based on system specs though. My son has an AXP 1700+ with a 6600gt and it plays fine at 1024x768 with most everything on medium (all shadows off). Haven't really fiddled with it much since he appears happy with the way it's running.

Not with that video card he won't. If you turn off all the shadow and water settings and run at 1024x768, it may be playable(i.e. 20-30 fps).
