Well the count is on 26 more days! :) I've already got some neon/black lights in, and I'm gettin a set of tubes for my chassis (gee wonder I got that inspiration! ;) ) but seeing as how they are illegal in michigan, I figured I'd just get a radar detector and then turn it off when cops are near. Would that work? And a Jammer wouldnt hurt either! looking in the $100-$200 range!

Thanks

"Passive" jammer don't work, and "active" jammers are 100%, totally, and with no doubt, completely illegal by FCC rules. Get a Valentine 1, an Escort, or save your dough. Radar detectors help you the most if you understand a little bit about how police use their radars. Most don't leave them on all the time. They use them in instant on mode. When they see a car that they visually estimate to be exceeding the limit (or for the hell of it, when they see you, HA HA :)) they flip the switch, and bam, 1/2 second later, they have your speed before you can even react to the detector. Detectors are far from foolproof.

BTW, neon lights will get you pulled over whether you're speeding or not, so don't use them unless you're parked, or in a good mood to talk to a cop :).

I've got more miles under my belt than most here will ever have in their lifetime. I use no detector and will not allow them in any car I own or drive.

Do not go over 5mph over....easy.

I got mine for free. It says "Cruise control". I put it at 65MPH and I don't have to worry about cops.

Easiest solution, make it so your car goes faster than the speed of radio waves or whatever the police use to communicate these days. Good luck on this one... Otherwise get a Valentine One, or something decent if you can't afford a Valentine One radar detector(I like the Bel's) and keep note of where you've seen police. Also check sites like speedtrap.com. While it doesn't always hold true, police will generally set up radar traps in those same general areas. Jammers are a joke and dark license plate covers are only good if you intend to and successfully run from the police. (Note running from the police will not only get you a ticket, it'll get you arrested)
As for when you get a ticket usually you can pay a lawyer $100-$300 and they'll get your tickets severly reduced (I.e. a 75 in a 55 ticket reduced to some no point violation but with a fat fine.)
Last time I got a ticket I hadn't gotten one in 3 years so the judge let me plead guilty to a 60 in a 55. Was still 3 points but those already came off.

I have an older Bel, and it works well except for sometimes being set off by other detectors. Even if you get one, watch out laser is instant on and a detector will not help.

HA

I was pulled over 2 times in the same night a couple years ago. The first time I was doing 70 in a 65 (Houston, Tx). The second time I was doing 72 in a 65 (Orange, Tx). I had my cruise control on and they caught me coming down a hill. If cops are bored enough, they will pull you over for going barely over...

Geez guys, what's wrong with cops in your part of the states?
I always drive 10 mph over if I see a cop and he doesn't mind. He'll drive right by or I'll actually drive by him.

That must suck to be going the speed limit.. man. My last ticket, 2 months ago, was for going 90 on a 65mph freeway and I assumed he was being nice since it was Sunday morning because I was riding between 90-100 the entire way, in a Honda Accord. :)

On the thruway while the speed limit is 65 until south of the woodbury/harriman barrier I've driven 74 and have been clocked at 74 so many times it's not funny, never once did I get pulled over.
As for south of the woodbury/harriman barrier they've decided to leave that at 55 and well most of the drivers still drive in the 70's on it. :p
Odds are in most states if you drive 9 over most cops won't bother you.

<< can cops tell if ur useing an active jammer? >>

Their radar gun will freak out. They might not know straight up that you are jamming their radar, but they will know something is up.

LOL, I had a friend who was visiting me at Cal one time and he was like, "Man I got a ticket coming up here." Naturally I ask him how fast he was going. "75 in a 70."

And then you'll get pulled over anyway and they'll take it. I'm sure the word's out on active jammers, since they've been around for a while now. Active jammers are way out of your $100-200 price range, unless you know how to build one yourself. They also set off every radar detector a half mile around you. Not too cool, if you ask me. Save your money for a nice V-1. According to Car and Driver's tests, it won't set off the radar detector detectors that cops use where detectors are illegal.
