just curious... i'm asian and my gf is chinese so she wants those typicals full fledged seafood restaurant weddings that cost at least 20-30k...

i duno i think it's sorta ridiculous... i can just settle for going to get my marriage license and straight hit the honey moon...or eloping in vegas would be ok.

also...how much would this wedding that you had/desire cost?

I'm going for the rite of passage in an Asian family, eating 10 course meal, parents and grandparents inviting everyone they know and no one I know.

Besides, whatever you take in from the wedding in cash pays for it.

Eloping is cool but you prolly can't get away with it. Women are likely to hold a grudge against you forever for denying them this lifetime achievement. I had the traditional southern big wedding. It was a huge PITA and as the groom, I had to shell out about $900 for the rehearsal dinner, cakes and other misc gifts. I bet the whole thing was over 20k, 15 years ago!!

If you can get her to come up with the eloping idea you are golden. Otherwise you can try to mitigate the damage but you prolly goin down!!!

<---- eloped

Saved thousands and thousands of $$$. It was a lot nicer to get that money personally than have it go towards a wedding :p

I had a dream last night that I was at someone's wedding....and basically they just walked out of this house..kissed..and drove off. Weird dream...

but yea..to answer the question. I want a nice wedding...but not too big. Just family and close friends.

We did the standard American wedding. Ceremony followed by reception with a sit down dinner, open bar (Beer, Wine, Soda), dancing, etc. Probably cost around the $20 - $30k range but it was beautiful and it's something that everyone that was there still remembers to this day.

You can look at weddings in two ways.

1) A celebration for the bridge and groom.

2) A celebration by the bridge and groom for all their friends, family, etc.

Most people go route 2.

But hire a wedding planner for ideas and such or to plan the whole thing if you are going to big, huge, fancy wedding route. THey can get good deals most times and they know all the questions to ask to make sure you get what you think you're getting and so you don't get screwed in the end.
