What kind of warranty should I have on my iPod?

I was wondering what kind of warranty that I should have left on this thing - I've pretty much given up on it after the horrible battery performance. Whether charged through the firewire port, or plugged in regularly, it won't hold a charge for anything.

I purchased it last June/July (Maybe August) through Dell, and I don't know what kind of warranty it had or still has on it. If anyone has any idea what kind of standard warranty that they come with when purchased through Dell I'd appreciate it.

I spoke to a couple of guys at the Apple store yesterday, and they were saying that Apple will replace the battery if it doesn't hold atleast 50%(I think?) charge for free if under warranty, and that an out of warranty battery replacement costs $99. Not something that I want to spend on something that I really don't even use.

Hopefully I'd be able to get it replaced for free, but who knows. That, and I'd like to just get the unit replaced since my screen got a little scratched up. Who knows, maybe I'll just drop it in FS and let somebody else worry about it (Stating the problems, of course.)

Anybody?

you have 1 more month on warranty.

You'll have to pay their $33 bucks in shipping and handling to get the service done, which is a rip off IMO.

Charge it on the Dock. It seems to charge better.
I noticed quite a bit of difference.

Does it matter that I didn't register it with Apple when I bought it? Ruh-Roh~

And yeah, I was charging it on the dock towards the end, but it still didn't hold for anything.

Are there any things to try before sending it back? I haven't researched it much yet, and am just bored at work trying to kill some time - gotta get back now, but I remember hearing that Apple tells you to reset the iPod, etc? I'll search it later, but figured I'd ask now just to see~

Thanks!

yea they tell you to turn the EQ off, turn off the back light and a bunch of stuff recommended on the website.
You don't necessarily have to do it, but it's on their website.
As long as it's under warranty, they'll replace the batter, but you'll have to pay shipping. (3x.xx) which is damn high if you ask me.

I wonder if you can just drop this off at an Apple Store.

Good question on that.

Who knows though, I gotta go register it - hopefully it's not too late~

yes, but some ppl dont' want to open up their ipod. and shipping is high I would guess because they use airborne next/2day. that's what they did for my ibook (it was a refurb, had a few issues after a month).

If you don't use it you might be better off just selling it for a bit cheaper than usual and letting someone else handle it

for 60-ish you can get applecare for your ipod. it extends your warranty for another 2 yrs. but you have to get it while you're under the 1st yr warranty, so get it now if you plan to.
i'll probably do the same for my ipod before august comes around.
