What kind of virus is this?

I have a virus in my pc that plays random music and pops up advertisements and also pops up windows by itself. Apparently,this virus was downloaded when a music program was downloaded. How can I get rid of this virus?

1) if you have WinXP or Vista, try System Restore to undo the damage. It may work, and it may not, but it's simple to try as a starting point.

I would start backing up any thing you don't want to loose if you havent already and do not use your computer with any passwords/credit cards or sesitive info untill you are absolutly sure it is clean. Some malware includes multiple layers and you may have other hidden issues like keyloggers dialers or be part of a bot net. If at all possible a reformat may be the quickest if not follow MechBgons advice and hope for a easy resolution.
