What kind of VESA mount do I need for my 2005FPW?

Update: Went with the black Ergotron LX desk mount, available for $100 from Provantage. Here's a photo of it in action:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/kaido/ergotron.JPG

It works GREAT. Installation is a snap. There are basically 3 parts: the base, the swivel arm, and the monitor arm. You start out by using a big hand-screw to attach the base to your desk. Cake. Next, slide on the swivel arm. Finally, attach the monitor plate to the monitor arm, then screw in the arm to your monitor. The monitor arm slides onto the swivel arm. All you need is a screwdriver. They include all of the adjustment tools you need to adjust the tension for your particular monitor. The only adjustment I had to make was on the monitor arm, my big Dell 2005fpw was too heavy, so I simply used the included hex wrench to turn the adjustment screw a few times so that it stayed put.

To the left of the base is one of my cable caddies, available from CyberGuys for about ten bucks. I have two of those that I use to route wires from mice, USB devices, chargers, power cables, etc. They're great. I also have my speakers mounted up there on the wall. Now I just need to clean up and mount some Wiremold to hide all the wiring. Whoohoo! Oh and I would suggest getting one of those rubber doorknob stoppers to put behind the arm on the wall, if you are close to the wall - when you swing the arm in it tends to whack the wall and leave a dent.

Original post: I want to mount my 20.1" Dell 2005fpw widescreen LCD monitor on my wall, with an arm that swings out. Never used a VESA mount before, what do I need to look for?

Edit: Discovered:
1. Accepts a standard VESA 100 mount
2. No VESA bracket required

Not the best mount in the world...adjusting screws are lame...but a "nice" mount will be about $100.

I recently mounted my speakers on the wall and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Having the monitor on the wall would free up a TON of desk space for me, which makes it really appealing. I'll give that ebay mount a shot and report back in a week or two.

If you want a quality wall mount, I suggest you look at Ergotron's LX Wall Mounts. They're pricey, but worth it if you want a wall mount.

Wow, hot! I might pick one of those up instead :Q

Edit: Sweet, found it for $100 on Provantage. That model is exactly what I had in mind - up/down, left/right, and in/out, with 1-handed operation. Thanks! :D
Edit 2: Ooh, wall-mount!

Wow, I hadn't actually looked at prices on these for awhile. Last time I checked on these, they were still ~$170. I'd pick one up right now, but I don't know a thing about properly mounting things like this.

Mounting them is pretty easy, just follow the instructions. :p

I want to mount my LCD to create more room after I mounted my TV on the wall..

TigerDirect made an installation video. It's CAKE - the desk mount has a simple hand-screw on the bottom, the arm pieces just fit on top of each other, and the LCD mount has 4 screws. If you can use a screwdriver you can put one together. Here's the video on YouTube:

I'm looking at the LX Wall Mount. I don't know if I could find a stud in the wall to screw it to.

Ah, gotcha. I think I'm going to go with the desk mount for that very reason :p

Very nice! That's the exact arm I wanted too (in black) but I can't use it b/c my desk has a solid back. :(

Looks real nice. :)

They have a wall mount - you could simply screw it to the desk backing. Only $5 more:

Thanks for the suggestion, but mounting it 180-degrees from normal wouldn't allow the arm to pivot enough to position the monitor correctly. That didn't soudn right, but if you look at the pic and "image it" you'll see what I mean. Thanks though!

Here is a pick of someone using the mount with 2 samsung 226bws http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b20/DjSandman87/DSC01670.jpg

Nice! I can only use 1 monitor with my laptop, plus I wanted a LOT of flexibility - forward/back, left/right, up/down, tilt, rotate. The Ergotron just screams quality too, like IsLNdbOi said. Once you adjust the tension, you only need one hand to make ANY of the adjustments. It's really nice.

Premium-quality mounts (Ergotron, Chief, Peerless, and a few others) cost more due to better quality craftsmanship, materials, and ergonomics. The fact that your mount holds several hundred $$$ worth of equipment (or more) should be reason enough not to skimp; add to that the fact that cheaper mounts often have issues with less-than-smooth joints and drooping. Purchasing a mount is much like buying furniture in that a quality model will last for many, many years and make your life more comfortable. Well-made mounts are also able to support more weight, so should you decide to move from 20" --> 24" -->30", the same mount will still work just fine.

Kaido- mount looks great! Nice work with the raceways as well.

Can you get that monitor all the way down to desktop level? I have a need to get my monitor low due to bifocals.

Sure does! I can snap some more pics or take a video if you want. I can also move the bottom up to nearly eye-level, it has pretty good range.

I can't speak for the 7Flex, but I love my Ergotron. I played with it all day yesterday :D I actually have to use two hands to move it since my monitor is so big, but it's got very smooth and easy motion. They did a really good job with the tensions in the various joints of the arm, especially with making them adjustable so that you can match the tension to your hardware and desires. Plus it looks dang cool. It also has a nice wire management system built in underneath the arms.
