just curious how much bandwidth a mouse uses when you're moving it around. it must not be very much, as mine never seems to slow down no matter what else is going on on the channel.
I doubt a mouse could use that much--the mouse could be pretty heavy on I/Os (and even then, maybe), but how much bandwidth can it take to say, "+4px X, -3px y, released button2"?
More than the bandwidth it takes one polling cycle. In a typical PC there is one USB controller that manages 6-8 ports. Any active ports are polled in a serial sequence, all the other ports are queued while the active port xfers data. This is usually not a big problem, but if you have a CF card reader or external hard drive you could see delays.
