I want to know if i can use the silicone thermal compound from 2cooltek.com to coat the top of my thuderbird except for the die and then use artic silver on the die for better heat transfer. A copper spacer will be used. I want to make sure I don't short the processor.

well it depends on the spacer
if i'm not mistaken you bought one from me

I included some instructions on use, but I would clean the cpu, and place a very thin layer of silicon thermal paste on the underside of the spacer itself. Put that on the CPU and then apply your regular thermal paste as normal(AS is good)

If you want to add thermal paste to the top of the CPU is up to you, you will not get any temp gains

Huh? You need grease on hte CPU Core-Heatsink contact. NOt having grease there is detrimental to performance.

Grease on either side of the shim is much more likely to increase core heat ever so slightly.

sorry, typo,t hats what I get for posting at 4am.

Um, I use thermal paste on the underside to keep the shim in place.
