Patron is the Grey Goose of Tequila. It's good, but overhyped for what it is. It's not the end-all but it is definately the crap you get out of a plastic jug. :p

Add in Jagermeister too. They all followed the same marketing strategy and they all captured the same demographic: ignorant children.

It's not as though Jager is expensive.

Herradura is under $50 and the only tequila I've ever had that I found to be anywhere near drinkable (but I haven't had anything costing more than $50 either). Tequila absolutely disgusts me, but if there's one bottle that I finished and somewhat enjoyed, it was that. I had the blanco.

Patron is ridiculously overrated. Overpriced because rappers hype it up?

Great entry level 100% agave tequila is Sauza Hornitos at about $22-$25, Cuervo Tradicional and Cuervo 1800 both fall in this same range.

My favorite in the $35 range is Herradura.

I second Cazadores.. Either that or Sauza Hornitos.. You can buy a bottle of Cazadores and Sauza Hornitos for the price of a bottle of Patron.. and IMO, both are better..

Patron is over-priced, but so are all tequilas nowdays. Go with Hornitos or Cuervo Tradicional, or Centenario if you can get it. 100 Años is also good for the price. Sauza also makes a tequila called Hacienda which is also very good imo. I drink tequila every day and I try to find the best flavor for the cheapest price. Right now I'm drinking a tequila called El Compadre. Costs me less than $5.00 a bottle at Sams here in Mexico. :D

For the pricier tequila I usually go with Don Julio Añejo. Not a fan at all of Cazadores or El Jimador. Cazadores just has an off taste imo, and while El Jimador is popular here in Mexico, it's price range is about the same as Cuervo Gold and I'd rather spend a couple dollars more on Hornitos or the others mentioned above.
