I got a few close shots with the camera before I fed him some raid for breakfast. I saved him in a bag and was gonna take him to someone for identification.
I'm not a spider expert, but it looks a bit like some of the Wolf spiders I've seen here in the midwest. But definitely take it to an expert, because if it is poisonous, and has friends, you will want to get some pest control under way.
Check out the pictures here. Anything look familiar?
That is what we called a "Wolf Spider" when I was growing up in Arizona. I have also seen a couple about as large as this one in the Phoenix area.
So far as I know they do not have deadly venom, but there are pretty nasty looking.
Yep...that's a Wolf Spider. Perfectly harmless....in fact they love to eat other creepy crawly critters!! Of course I smash them on site...hate spiders of ANY sort.
YIPES!!! i hate spiders. i don't care if it is harmless, if it's in my house and i see it, it's dead. if it's any other bug i'll just catch it and let it go outside, eh besides, roaches and flies.
there was this one guy that can identify any kind of spider. I took a picture of this one huge spider when i was dorming last 2 years ago and i did a search in yahoo. i emailed him and he replied with the exact scientific name. sorry, i dont have that email anymore. its been too long. but search in yahoo for spiders or identify spiders and email some experts. btw: that spider looks damn scary!
Nasty...I once saw this spider outside, it was about the same size...maybe an inch bigger. But it was fat and had short legs...it was light brown with white spots. I didn't waste any time and promptly burnt it to a crisp (can of hairspray + match = flamethrower)
