What kind of sand paper do i need to lab HSF?

Grit(?) I think it is called. The rating on how fine the sandpaper is.

depending on how rough your HSF surface is , start around 400-600 , then work up through 800 , 1200 , then if you want to get a real fine finish even finer .

I just went to Home Depot, and they said the highest grit sandpaper they have is 400.

Is this correct?

And is 400 grit sandpaper fine enough to lap my HSF???

400 isn't good enough. I'd go to at least 1500 grit, wet-sanded... You can get high grit paper at auto-parts stores...
