Hey, I have the iRiver and have used it once to record some of my class. It seemed to work pretty well and I could hear everything that was being said (I was probably 30-40 feet from the prof). Sound quality was pretty decent too. Hope that helps your decision.

PS If you're trying to bootleg a concert, stand WAAAAAAAAY far from the speakers.

hahaha...i'll be too busy studying to go to any concerts. :(

Usually paper. I have used MS Word in the past.

do you have any experiences with recorders though? Any classmates that you can refer to? :)

I've tried mspaint. My handwriting really is horrible. I can't rely on it as writing by hand is quite awkward for me. :(

edit: I said mspaint!! Lol. I meant ms word.

I have enough trouble staying awake through a lecture once, I don't want to have to listen to it twice. :)

The nice thing about using the computer to take notes is that your notes are searchable. You don't have to flip through pages to find a formula, just search for the title of it. Much faster than listening to hours of voice recordings over again.

haha, that makes sense. I somehow lack half of my brain cells in the morning, and find it difficult to concentrate. At nights, my brain kicks into high gear. I wish i could have class start at 11 pm
:)

I just realized I still have that recording in my iRiver. I could link it up for you in a few minutes...sorry about all the mindless banter.

Now that I listen to it again, my advice is: If you are getting a recorder, be VERY quiet, and sit close to the front.
