I'm looking to get an RC Car to play with, but I haven't had one in years. I'm not looking for a fancy one where you can swap engines and tires etc, just an inexpensive one to mess around with. Should I go to Radioshack, or Kay Bee Toys or someplace like that? I'm looking for one that's under $100.

well you can get a nice NIKO or TYCO for about 80$ to 120$ for a big one but if you want to do anything more than just drive around in circles for a half hour and go buy more batteries you should definantly build your own.

i had a Associated RC-10 back in '88. The hobby was too expensive
for me back then though, so I got out of it. If you want
a car just to thrash around and annoy your room/dorm mates...go
for the toy's r us tycos etc.

I got mine at RadioShack for $119 5 years ago. It still kicks butt, but it's starting to lag. The cheap plastic body is starting to break from all the jumps and stuff. I need new tread, but can't find anything that fits at the local hobby shop. I also snapped one of the rear springs.
If u want something that's gonna take abuse off road, don't get RS. Get something better. Try looking at ads in a local paper or Recycler.com. Don't get screwed like me...

ps: mine's so old that the manual suggests 1200mah batteries!

Get the TYCO NITRO or LOADER DOZER.

This thing is really rugged. I think KB or TRU has them real cheap. Around $30. Need to get a charger so total is around 60. This thing is killer.

Get an Associated RC10 or comparable...they're a lot more fun for a few extra bucks...I don't know if they still make it, but the offroad car (car, not truck) is cool for both on and offroad because it's midway between street and off road...

I ended buying a RC car from Toys r US, hehe. It's a big Ford F-150 that cost 100 bucks, uses a 9.6volt battery pack. I'm waiting for it to charge up, should be fun.
