What kind of ram should i use?

I'm getting a 3000 venice on an asus a8n-e and i plan on ocing it as far as i can get it on air. Is it worth it to get above pc3200 ram? I don't want to pay a lot of extra money for a slight increase in performance and it's unlikely i'll get ram fast enough to run 1:1.

Would it make sense going 3500 or 4000?

A64's are not bandwidth dependant, so there is no real reason go go higher than PC3200 or run at 1:1. Just get value ram, and run with dividers.

I already have 2 sticks of generic 256mb pc 2700. Would make sense to keep this and just get another 512mb stick of pc3200?

i disagree...value ram is never the best way to go...it is slower, less reliable...and with good prices on high-qaulity, you also can resell it for a good price as well...not to mention a good warrenty (lifetime often)....

if you want great mem, TCCD is really good...OCZ plat rev 2...other makers make this as well...VERY good RAM...if you want extreme OC, get good quality RAM...just like you wouldnt skimp on a PSU or mobo...

You'd probably want some PC3200 value RAMs, such as the Corsair Value Select (mine even OC to 235FSB at 1:1), or others.

You may want to read Zebo's guide to OCing the Athlon34 in the CPU & OCing section of this forum -- it's quite helpful.

Value ram is no less reliable then any other ram...not sure where you get that idea from. It's value ram because it doesn't have as good of timings..and you don't need the ram to run at a high frequency or have super tight timings for the A64..the A64 design is not bandwidth dependant, and the onboard memory controler greatly reduces latency..there are plenty of comparisons on this website that prove there is very very little performance differance..and value ram is not of any lower quality than any other ram..

I use 4 sticks (2 gig total) of the Corsair VS 2.5 cas and have NEVER had an issue, lockup, nada. I love this stuff! Newegg has it for like 77 bucks for a gig today.
