I'm planning on getting a KT7A-Raid and 1.2ghz 266 athlon and 512 mb ram.

Should I get pc133 cas2 ram or pc2100 cas2.5 ram (both Crucial), assuming they cost the same? I'm mainly going to be using the system for 3D gaming purposes.

kt7 supports sdr

if u want ddr, u can go epox 8k7a+

ddr probably best. goodluck. ddr actually costs less than sdr. go figure. supplydemand..

How much of a difference would DDR make over SDR in terms of gaming? How big of a difference? 10% or more improvement?

Well if you really want to know it really depends on the motherboard you get. Generally 10% is what I read in a lot of reviews. I won't know personally till I finish my next computer in a couple of days. If you really want to know, then read a lot of reviews. HardOCP is a good place. They link to a lot of other reviews. Everybody has their favorites though...

I read your post and then looked at your sig. Your poor Ultra! It's absolutely CRYING from being held back by that crummy CPU! 🙁 You need a new rig, my friend.

I'm the biggest Abit fan around. Contrary to prolly 85% of everything others may (will?) say, Abit rocks. My KT7R has not even hiccuped once in the six months I've been beating on it.

However, being that you are starting from scratch and haven't yet purchased your components; I would go DDR. DDR is the future. Get a good mobo. The Epox Bangaillio recommended is really nice. Get 256mb of PC2100 Ram. (Don't even bother w/PC1600) You'll be set. Good luck.

Bangsailio's right if that's the motherboard you are going to get, then you need the PC133 RAM. If you are looking to buy PC2100 RAM, you need a DDR mobo like the Epox EP-8K7A. Decisions, decisions... DDR is probably going to be the standard of the future, so it might be a good time to take the plunge.
