What kind of RAID? SCSI or ATA?

I need to set up a RAID array, either 0+1 or 5. If you were going to do it, what type would you choose, and why?

Depends on what I'm using it for. For just a simple RAID array, IDE will be fine because it has the mirroring. If I needed anything fast, SCSI is mine.

I have a raid 5 ATA setup in my web server. Works fine for me. What exactly are you using it for?

If this is just for home and for data storage, IDE will do you just fine. I have 6 WD 80GB SE's in RAID 5 for my file server and they are plenty fast. Unfortunately, they are also plenty hot. 🙁

Well, if you have the cash, by all means setup the SCSI raid. You probably know this, make sure you have adequate cooling though cause those puppies get hot. SCSI Raid = my dream machine. But ATA is fine if you're only going to need it for data protection.

If you mainly need data protection, why not just do RAID mirroring? Only 2 drives, so cooler, quieter, and cheaper. Also more reliable (with regard to repairs not data loss) since your chance of drive failure is only 2 times the failure of a single drive instead of 4-6 times.
