It's sitting on a lower branch of a tree in my front yard. i can almost reach the bird and it doesnt flinch as i get closer. its used to humans and probably got away from its owner???

going to get some bird seed to coax it onto my hand.
if bird seed doesnt work, other suggestions?

Sometimes giving it the finger works...

I used a sheet to catch one a couple years ago. It wasn't in a tree tho. I put a notice on craigslist and returned it to it's owner about 15 miles away.

Seriously, you don't know what that is? It's a budgerigar, aka a budgie. You get em for $10 at the pet store. Very popular pet. They're native to Australia.

This. I've had budgies that looked exactly like this one. See if you can get him to warm up to you. Likely he is someone's recently lost pet.

I almost caught a free range keet once, but I fumbled it, and he flew into a cornfield. Never saw it again.

They'll escape at any opportunity. His owner probably let him out of his cage for a flight but forgot to close the window. Hopefully he finds his way home before a cat or hawk gets him.
