What kind of noise is ur car supposed to make when the break pad needs changing?

I just acquired a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. This morning i noticed that its making very strange noises while i break.. kinda like a grinding noise.. My other cars made high screeching noises but i've never had a dodge before so maybe grinding is what i get with dodges. I HOPE that its just break pads and nothing else.. I will try to take it into the shop tomorrow but was just curious if any you had any inputs on this matter.

Grinding is worse than squeking.

I don't think grinding is the sound, but for certain pads/rotors/cars, it could be possible.

Well i never heard squeeking.. just grinding.. and it started all of a sudden this morning..

I have a 1995 Caravan and my brakes have never made a grinding noise when they needed replacing. Sounds like you need new pads and rotors.
