I have been using the the black radpatz for several years now. I did get tired of the flame logo and my mouse was starting to hang on it, so I scratched it off...

How big a part do the mouse pads play in gaming? Will I see any improvements over just a regular old pad? I have an MX700

Having a decent mouse is good (like your MX700) but team it up with a good mouse pad and you`ve an awesome setup for gaming,I would recommend the Everglide Giganta Optical mouse pad for your MX700,reason being it was designed for optical mice and especially cordless,it will reduce your battery usage as well ,so your batteries should last longer, reason being the optical sensor won`t need to use so much battery power on the surface of the pad due to its excellent surface for the optical sensor to read and track.

It will feel real smooth and like being on ice(only way I can describe my Giganta pad with my optical mouse)when moving the mouse ,it will require very little effort to move the mouse,so you`ll get fast smooth response in gaming.

been thru everglide, everglide giganta, and func1030.... all were worn out after about 1/2year.
i recently switched to a mousepad called icemat. it's made of glass , which will not wear out.
and it actually works good with my intellimouse optical. im surprised since i thought it would not work on glass/mirror surfaces.
this mousepad will last a life time (unless if u drop it.. which will shatter), no more of the plastic wearing out on the everglides or the func1030 pads.

I use Ratpadz with my Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical. The is a new Ratpadz coming out called the Ratpadz GS. It is supposed to be half the height and faster I think. Should be out in a month or so form what I hear.

I`ve heard good things about the Icemat,it`s approved to officially work with the Microsoft intellimouse/Optical V3 mice, the only bad thing is it does`nt work with all optical mice,I`m not sure if it will work with the new Logitech MX series, but would presume it should work fine.

I have an optical mouse; I've found that the $1 cloth-and-rubber things from computer shows do a fine job. They stay put very well, and the mouse moves and tracks nicely.
The ones with a foam backing aren't any good though; these are usually used for promotional offers - foam backing and a hard plastic surface. If you move the mouse, the pad moves with it.

i think they have a black colored version, which will work with all opticals but clear is so much better looking! : )

I was talking about the black Icemat ;),

The very first point I would like to make is that, this icemat does not "officially" support optical mice pads. As I said earlier in this review, you?re either going to hate this mat, or your going to love it. So onto the testing, I own the very first version of the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer.

When I first placed my mouse upon this black beauty I was shocked with its performance. Let's just say my mouse works better on my desk without any mouse pad at all. Icemat told me that the Black Icemat has some support for the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and the Wireless edition but not all versions of the optical eye.

Another vote for cloth... excellent feel and doesn't move too quickly, which hard mousepads like the everglide tend to do.

Try a white plastic cutting board or tempered glass cutting board from walmart or bedbathandbeyond.

I'm using a mousepad from office max made by belkin. It's got the hump thing for supporting your arm. It's good enough for me and the pad thing feels like a boob:)

I got the everglide today. Believe it or not, it is night and day compared to a regular pad. If your into fps games, its well worth the money.
