What kind of mice do pro gamers use?

I'm no pro-gamer, but I have a nice list of accomplishments in online FPS games--a hundred or so gold medals in 64 player BF1942, etc.

Personally, I prefer corded ball-tracking mice. I'm used to the small non-contoured shape and can maneuver it with my finger tips. If I know I need to make a sudden move, I can lift it off the pad and set it on the other side of the mouse pad before sliding it across when this same motion would cause an optical mouse to shift around erratically. Some may say, "Dude, increase the mouse sensitivity settings!", but if you can spin around with only a subtle move, then you've lost the ability to finely target rapidly.

Just wondering if I'm alone/wrong.

From one who plays games fairly seriously:

My Logitech MX500 is the best mouse I've ever used, paired with my Surface 1030">http://www.func.net/</a> mousepad. No erratic movement ever. One failed on me during the 3 year warranty period; Logitech shipped out a new one at no cost (though their support number was long distance).

I think there's one called the "razor" or "razer" (something like that) that a lot of players use.

Back in my Q2 pwnage days, I used the same - corded ball mouse (Logitech Wheelman) - I realized the day I bought an optical that I too picked the mouse off the pad a lot. I never got used to it so I went back to the ball.

Boomslang. THe logitech 510 is very nice. I currently use an explorer 3.0. I don't like the 4.0 for some reason.

The razor mice are supposed to have a "higher resolution" than other mice, I'm not sure if that is the case or not. The early ones I've used had the ball mouse in a strange position, and was not something I liked to use.

I've seen many people claim that mechanical ball mice are the best. I really don't notice a massive differece. Though most of my pc gaming days were done long before optical mice were out.

I got the MX510 when it came and it's AMAZING. I think corded opticals are the best. They're insanely light. Would def go with the 510 or Boomslang

Most (almost all) amateur and pro gamers use either an MS Intellimouse Explorer or an MX series mouse. Mousepads... usually DKT, fatpad, thunder8/func1030, steelpad, etc.

the mx1000 is supposedly logitech's best right now. technically, it should kick any mx500's butt and is a 10x improved mx700, as so they say.

but it costs like 80bucks?

way to much for a mouse IMO... corded in my opinion is better since you cant throw it off your desk when you get angry :)

Generic OEM Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse always worked well for me. I'm not a professional gamer tho.

As in they get paid money to play... I know a few people that are sponsored to play, they get hardware from companies and play in big tournaments for cash.

meh. the MX700 cost $80 when it first came out.

definitely worth it.

I'm waiting till they bundle the MX1000 with a keyboard, though.

Only ones i have ever heard anyone refer to as great gaming mice are Razor Boomslang and the new MX1000.

For me it doesn't matter, i am no great gamer, i have my old logitech and that works for me.

logitech claims the MX1000 is the first laser mouse.

thats bullsh!t. i used a sun workstation with a laser mouse 6 years ago. had to be put onto a special pad with a grid of dots, but it had a laser in the bottom.
