My sisters are going to japan next week. I want to have them pick up a nice portable laptop for me while they're there. Anyone know of any good models I should look for?

My price range is sub $1500 US and be ultra portable. I heard from slashdot that the sharp mm20 is nice w/ the transmeta chip and weighing only about 2lbs.

buying lappys...wait a min...buying electronics in japan?!...u must be nuts, rich, or stupid.
all electronics are marked up in japan, regardless of where they were manufactured.
even in akibahara ...sure they got deals but not in comparison to what your dollar will fetch in the US...
and thats true even tho' the yen is crapping out.

Japanese electronics are no cheaper than what you can find in the US. That was so 10 years ago. ;)

Doesn't help that the dollar is weak either.

I don't know why people have this idea that buying hardware in Japan is better than buying it somewhere else.

look into the Sharp Mebius I think or something of that sort.

it can be had for like 1100-1500 for a nice notebook setup :)
it's like 3/4 inch thin and 2-3lbs
