I've been having a REALLY bad time with my knee's lately and I know something is wrong with both of them for sure but cant go to a doctor to find out untill my new insurance kicks in (turned 18 not to long ago). I know the cause of the problem was me running 3 or more miles every day for years and years, and I played football and basketball in highschool all 4 years as well, so I was doing ALOT of running around.

The pain pretty much surrounds my knee cap's. It's more concetrated at the very base of the knee cap where the lower half of my leg's meet up with the knee cap's. When my knees are bent and I flex or stand up from sitting down, the pain spreads deep through pretty much the whole joint (sides, top and bottom). My right knee kreek's every time I straighten my leg out as well. I ran a few miles not to long ago to see exactly what happens after stressing the knee's, and this is what I gathered:

Both knee's were VERY stiff after the run, I felt extremely weak in the knees while walking home, at one point I almost fell because my right knee just gave out on me. The morning after my knee's were swollen pretty bad, and I could hardly bend them, the pain was MUCH worse to. The right knee was numb to some degree as well. My knee's stayed extreemly sensitive for about 8 day's after the run.

Anyone have any idea on what possibile problems these type?s of pain could be attributed to? Are there any special joint meds you can recomend untill I can get to a doctor? This pain has only been this bad for about 5 month's now. Not having the full use of my leg's is really starting to wear down on me mentally :(, and the pain is no fun either. Laying down sucks . Any advice is much appreciated, hopefully I can get some ideas on what could be worng.

Take some anti-inflammatory/analgesic stuff like ibuprofen or naprosyn if you can tolerate them and see a doctor. What you're describing could be any number of causes; arthritis, tendon, ligament, joint capsule/bursa, et. al.

It somewhat sounds like runners knee (there's also a medical term for it but i'm not sure what it is). I just recently have gotten over it myself from running too much. It's caused by a number of things, such as flat feet, bad shoes, bad running form, or just plain overuse. Whats happening is that basicly your knee cap is not tracking right and could be rubbing against the tendon. To get over it, i took lots of ibuprofin, iced it about 3 times a day ( no more than about 15 min at a time, and stay off of it as much as possible untill it heals. For me, it took about 2 weeks to heal to the point where i could run again. When you can start running again, i'd suggest getting something called a patt-strap, which is a little band that goes under your kneecap to help it track right. That helped me alot.

For me, it was really depressing after running so much, and then having to stop completly, but it's what you have to do if you don't want it to get worse.

Do a google search for on runners knee and you'll find lots of info about it.

I'd also suggest taking a look at this site. . That will give you info on various stretches you can do to help it and prevent it in the future.

Hope it gets better, i know how much it sucks. It was really bad in my case to the point that i was limping for the first week after it got really bad.

Questions and Answers about Knee Problems at WebMD

Do not run if there's any knee pain. Walk instead. You could also try glucosmine and chondroitin sulfide capsules. As with any medical condition consult a medical practitioner before starting any treatment plan, that's my disclaimer.

Also, as was mentioned the knee brace is definitely a good idea. I screwed up my left knee (repetitive stress injury) about ten years ago, and I usually have to wear a brace when running very much.
