What kind of job do you have? Can we try to get a semi-serious survey?

Let's get the lame and your 'witty' responses out of the way (hooker and blow, professional neffer, 800k just being a 1%, etc).

What do you do? I've always admired those of you here with such extensive tech skills. Maybe your title and write a bit about what you do?

Me: Project Manager in a pharma consulting, dabble little bit of IT, I plan/write/review IVR mapping and end-user interface that nurse hotline agents use for cancer patients that need help with their oncology prescriptions.

:)

I've always been a dumbass about the term 'software engineer'. Is that same as developer/programmer?

Manager, Financial Accounting for a largeish public investment firm. I manage a group of six who record all the IS and BS numbers for our Canadian operations, manage all of our share schemes, do prepare reporting for all of these numbers, etc.

Super. Exciting. Stuff.

Director of Operations/Branch Manager for a fairly large mortgage company. When I started here (at AT) I was but a wee Loan Processor/Underwriter.

Now I am a corporate yuppy who drives a Range Rover listening to the Eagles @ 29 years old. :(

I hire, fire, put out fires, create reports, implement systems, discipline, positively reinforce, and occasionally help guide ATOTers through the perils of residential mortgages if they have questions.

you develop and program, but you also take parts in all processes such as design and testing.

haha that's a fun thread - what did you do when you first joined AT vs what do you do now.

I can't believe it's been....12+ years O_O

My working title is "Diagnostic Application Badass". In reality I blur the line between a PACS Administrator and an Application Analyst.

I work in healthcare doing build and support of of our EMR, scope out interfaces, work with other institutions to create VPN tunnels for image transfers, support the major app systems that store and manage hospital imaging (xrays, mri, ct, us, EEG, EKG, ect), do some workstation build on the high end workstations that read those studies, help create and design workflows to integrate IT products into clinical practice. Work to install and integrate imaging modalities, Ect.

I've got a lot of stuff under that "other duties as assigned" line item on my job description.

I don't really have a title other than mad scientist.

I repair/upgrade/program/order/refurbish credit card terminals. I also do customer support, small amount of IT, account setup, troubleshooting and a bit of finance.

I just took on a new project for a test project where I'm doing installation of GPS trackers, lighting, solar and backup systems.

We are looking into doing bulk cell phone repairs, iPad repairs, motherboard and possibly gaming system repairs. I would be in charge of all of that.

I would love for someone here to give me a title. Mine changes often.

Agreed! I am interested if ATOT neffing actually hindered anyone's career!

When I started I was doing 25+ ppd, which I think was close to or more than neckbeard. It probably did slow me down in my work duties :p

My current title is "Systems Architect," which in general means "Programmer with gray hair who doesn't want to be a manager." I design, develop, test, deploy, and support web-based and mobile applications. Current project is a continuing education site with browser and mobile interfaces, running in EC2 on linux/apache/nginx/mysql, and written in python on django.

You should add a survey, I'd like to know how many ATOT'ers *actually* earn 100k or more

like:

< 50k
50 - 100k
100k - 250
> 250k

lol, I'm kinda in the same boat, minus the gray hair. We fired our product manager a year ago and never replaced him. For anything other than sales & accounting, it falls to me, but at the same time I never really adopted the Mgr role officially (title is Lead Dev) so I guess there is some plausible deniability there.

You won't get serious results with an anonymous poll, and generally people who make decent money don't like to say exactly what they make, unless they are young/just started making that kind of money.
