i was wondering what hsf should i get for my atlon64 3000+ 939. i need it to be able to fit in an Antec Aria case and a MSI RS480M2 mATX ATi Xpress200 Chipset mobo. i also want it to be very quiet. under 18dba if possible. hopefully under $40. thanks in advance.

Thermalright XP90 with Panaflo 92mm fan........

This is what the vast majority run with an A64 combo and tests show it cools the best (next to the XP120 which is slighty better but huge). Couple it with the Panaflo and you'll also have about the most quiet solution also. If you plan to O/C anytime in the future possibly, this or the XP120 is the combo to have!:)

Have fun!

This HSF is plenty of cooling for a Winchester at a great price. Includes all mounting hardware: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de...200845?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846

I have it's sibling 7000Cu on my 3500+ Win @ 2.5GHz and the load temp is 40C tops on a DFI nF4 Ultra-D, well below the CPU max temp of 65C. And that is with a fan speed of 1700rpm, nearly silent. The 7000's perform nearly identically.

Take a look at this chart of CPU's for power consumption (which translates into heat): http://www20.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041115/pentium4_570-20.html

You simply don't need to overbuy cooling for a Winchester. The 939 Win is the best CPU I have ever owned, AMD gets a huge nod from me...

The Zalman CNPS7000 will juuuuuuust fit on the MSI RS480M2-IL. The edge of the heatsink comes right up to the edge of the mobo so it should not foul the PSU.

Get one of those and mount it with some Arctic Silver 5.
