I would really appreciate your comments. I want to find the affordable and the best hardware/software combination for video capture, whether the source is a camcorder, a dvd player, a vcr or tv. Do you use the video capture capabilities of your tv card or have a separate video capture card or a video capture box that plugs into the USB.

Or do you use some firewire stuff.

Please, let me know your methods of video capture. All inputs are greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Pinnacle Studio DV which gives you a firewire PCI card ($60 woohoo).

Panasonic DV400 digital camcorder.

One extra 45GB Maxtor HD (got it for $89 woohoo).

One Promise ATA 100 PCI controller card for the 45GB bad boy.

One Maxtor ATA 100 PCI controller card that I got for free (rebate woohoo) but I do not need it.

I use WinTV to capture video, but a *big* hard drive is recommended. I have 15 gigs free just for videos, and its not enough by a long shot. In my experience (which is way way limited) you cant capture in anything other then avi format with most programs out there. And avi has a file limit size of 4 gigs, which is about 20 or 30 minutes worth of video. See the problem here? Anyways, there are ways around it. Go to yahoo (or any search engine) and search for avi conversion, or mpeg, or something like that. Also, you probably wanna have a pretty fast system, or you will drop frames, which is no good. I recently upgraded to a ATI Radeon 32 DDR. In hindsight, I would *strongly* recommend the ATI All In Wonder. It has all the extra fancy tv in/out, vid capture etc. And the graphics are stellar!

dababus,
I started about 1.5years ago doing video editing on my computer. I started with a TV card & Video Wave software, It was ok.
Than I got the Studio DV from Pinnacle, Came with so good software and was easy to use.
But once I got a tast of Video Editing, I wanted more.
So Now I have the DV500 which came with Abode Premeier 5.1c.(Now comes with 6.0).
I love this board & software.
