Anyone care to throw out a figure here?
What's the gas milage on a 16' (well-maintained) moving truck?

I don't understand why it wouldn't be diesel, but it isn't...

****** ;) actually without knowing the size of the car and the motor in the truck and where you traveling i.e. mountains or flat terrain hard to tell but a guess would be 5-8 mpg.

Even empty with no vehicle in tow, you'd be lucky to get better than about 10-12 mpg. 5-8 is a good estimate. Some of the newer U-hauls get about 14 depending on load, but I rarely get one that's in that good of condition...;)

Rent a diesel if you can. More torque and likely better mileage.

No go, the Penske 12 and 16 foot trucks are all gas.
I actually called to see if I get a diesel and they don't have them in Diesels.

I got 10-12MPG in a 16' Budget truck with no car mostly full and mostly flat road.

Funny how some are saying 5 and some are saying 10-12.
5 seems low. Even 18 wheelers do better than that, and diesel doesn't result for that big of a difference given the weight difference...

I drive a Ford LN9000 dumptruck almost daily, and it gets about 5. Diesel is much more efficient than gas.
I had a '64 ford 2 ton with a 292 industrial, and it was the best at about 8 or 9 on gas.
The '74 corn binder 2 1/2 ton with a 392 got 5.
Long haul, I got about 5.5 with an average weight of 65k and moving at 70. That was with a cabover Kenworth, '45 double drop trailer.

Plan on 5 and maybe enjoy a pleasant surprise:p:)
