I don?t know what type of gamer I am. There are all sorts of labels, but I don?t know what group I fit into.
And it appears I stay behind the times when buying a game. As in I just got finished with far cry 2 about a week ago.

My favorite games ever are Deus ex and RavenShield (both single and Multi player)
Loved Far cry (but didnt think FC2 was very good).
Loved Crysis and the add on (although it seemed short and not as involved in the story as the first one)
Liked the Ghost recon series, but thought the last one was really bad (didn?t even bother finishing it)
Also like the Silent Hunter series of submarine games.

Far Cry 2 was the last game I bought. What is a good game to be looking at for my next purchase?
Any help for the experts would be appreciated

Maybe COD4? I guess it's sort of somewhere between Far Cry / Crysis on one end of the spectrum, and R6 / GR / GRAW on the other.

Oddly enough, I hated all of the R6 games I've tried, including the original and Raven Shield, but I've like all of the Ghost Recon games, even the two GRAW games which most people seem to hate. So I would try any demos of the games recommended.

Another vote for CoD 4: Modern Warfare. Have you played Deus Ex 2? You can also try the F.E.A.R. series.

You do fall into a category, the "indecisive gamer" :p. The indecisive gamer is the one who refuses to shoot at the enemy because hes not sure if hes supposed to, or maybe he better save the ammo, or it might be better to just stay put.

Orange box is worth a shot if youve never played half life 2 or any of the other games that come with it.

COD5 is only 25 on steam this weekend

EDIT: I am a cheap gamer, I can't pass up a good deal, and will buy the game even if it had shitty reviews :p

COD5 got pretty decent reviews, I played it, single player was pretty fun.

May I suggest Left 4 Dead?

First person shooter. Insane pace from beginning to end. Great MP experience.

Very different from the games you mentioned, but definitely worth a try and you can get it through Steam I think?

Also, don't even think about trying Deus Ex 2. Just don't.

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines - Excellent RPG, lots of replayability. Look for the community patches.
System Shock 2 - As old as Deus Ex, but like Deus Ex considered one of the best first-person RPGs ever.
Thief Gold, Thief 2 - When it comes to stealth, it doesn't get any better than this. Hundreds of fan missions, with several huge ones.

System Shock 2
Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
Stalker: Clear Sky
Thief 2
And from what I hear, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Sounds like you enjoy FPS games. Sadly, other than COD4, there really aren't any other first rate, recent FPS games that have large online multiplayer player counts.

Have you considered trying some of the older ones? Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike Source, Unreal Tournament 2004 (still lots of activity for Onslaught and Invasion Monster Hunt RPG)?

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

I should have mentioned that although Deus ex is to me one of the best games ever. I found Deus ex 2 to be the one of the worst games ever. To me it was the beginning of the end of PC games. As it was the first game for me to experience what a port over was. In the space of 1 hour I went from total joy in that the game was finally available for sale and couldn't wait to get home. To ejecting the cd and breaking it into pieces in complete and total disappointment. The game went immersion (ie getting wounded in the arm made it harder to aim, shot in the leg harder to run) to health bars, ammo packs, no story and no chance to change any outcome. A pure get on and ride the rail type game which was the total opposite of the first one.

Anyhow (thanks for tolerating the vent) I have picked up a used copy of stalker and will pick up COD 4 and mass effect tomorrow.

The more suggestions the better,
Thanks Guys and Gals

A few games of possible interest to you.

Battlezone & Battlezone 2. Alien Vs Predator (1& 2), Jedi Outcast 2, Max Payne (1 & 2), Thief: Deadly Shadows, Tron 2.

For the single player campaign you might like Tribes Vengeance, and for a great multi-player the freshened up reissue of Tribes will soon be playable through http://www.instantaction.com/ (for free of course).
