Dozen red roses. Women love roses, plus it scores points for you in the nookie department. ;)

Sadly, roses are grown out of country quite often, and the pesticide use on them is unregulated by tree huggers and what can happen is that your loved one can poison themselves cleaning, stripping, and trimming the stems for a vase. In this would it is money that people strive for, not love. Wear gloves and don't throw the waste in your compost pile.

Get her her favorite flowers (You DO know what her favorite flowers are.............RIGHT????).
Roses are nice, but they are more typical for occaisions like anniversaries or valentine's day. When mine comes back from freakin' Thailand, I'll probably get her daisies or tulips. Daisies are her favorite, but I got her daisies last time. Gotta change it up a little...

i'd say if you haven't gotten her roses before that should be a good choice, especially when she sees you standing in public at the gate with them. big points there. imo, the gesture itself will outweigh the actual choice of flower, or gift even. good luck.

But thanks for the suggestions everyone, maybe I'll go with the Gerber Daisies or tulips. :)

That has been the BEST advise so far!!!
If you want something exotic, get orchids! They smell great and can be somewhat inexpensive at some flower shops. Or get a big bunch of sunflowers, or iris'. Write a little "love letter" with the flowers telling ehr how much you missed her too!

I googled it and those are beautiful flowers :). Are they common, I mean, the flower store will have some?

I like daisies and lilacs....lilacs smell AMAZING. They used to grow at my high school in the courtyard right outside of one of the history classrooms...and girls would fight each other for a seat by the window to smell the flowers. Lilacs are great.

Alright I'll take your advice on the carnations :)

Oh I forgot about lilacs!! We have some lilac bushes behind our house, and yes, they do smell very good. Actually now I think about it, she did say she likes lilacs.

lilacs are my favorite flower.. and they just won't grow here, I've been trying for 12 years. I would buy them for myself, if I could find any to buy.

if you can find 'em, get her some lilacs.

edit: well.. heck. just cut her some!

Haha! That's one of those questions that you ask early, ask often. You can sneak it in during the early weeks of a relationship because you can ask nonsense like "What's your favorite ice cream? What's your favorite pizza topping? What's your favorite flower?" Take notes all the while. It's a great time to dredge up gift and date ideas without it being apparent that you are doing so :D

It sounds like banter, but it's a great trick. I pulled this on my current gf and extracted "Daisies" from her. When I bought her a bunch of daisies a couple weeks later, she had completely forgot. "Daisies are my favorite!! How did you know?!?!"

Remember this, grasshopper :)

She wrote down on a paper a some questions and gave them to me before (favorite color, song, band, place to be, who was a major influence on me, things like that). Doing the same for her would probably be a good idea :).

I just got a bunch of white ones at Costco, so yes they should be available at a good florist shop. They also have a faint parfume that is quite subtle but delightful, particularly, I guess, if you smelled it when you were young.

A few months ago I was asking for recommendations from co-workers on what flower arrangement to send my wife for Valentine's Day. 3 females chimed in and said how they HATE/LOATHE/DESPISE Carnations in any and all forms. Wow, shocked the crap outta me but I got the message loud and clear.

Usually, around now (in the US), there's a lot of roses available other than the standard red, white, and yellow... And, you can often find them for $10 a dozen. By FAR, the best roses I ever purchased for someone were only 6.50 a dozen. They were the most fragrant, they opened to a huge size, and lasted much longer than the standard roses that everyone has.
