i have both hardwood and carpet in my house and like both of them. also have tile at the entry way and in bathrooms and it works well in those places too.

i definitely wouldn't change the carpeting in my basement because it's my HT and hardwood would mess with acoustics, and it's cold as hell in my basement in the winter and the carpet helps keep your feet warmer.

Hardwood with area rugs in select places.

I currently have ceramic tile and wall-to-wall carpet. I hate both so much.

Same, but I like the tile in the areas that have it(kitchen, bathrooms, foyer...). The only issue is you can pretty much kiss any vitrified object you drop goodbye. Tile floors are hard on glassware and stuff.

I have hardwood under all the carpet, and some time when I get motivated, I'm gonna get rid of all the carpet.

I have bamboo in the entire house except for the bathroom and bedrooms. Tile in the bathroom and carpet in the bedrooms.

I like stone (slate is nice) for areas that deal with wet - kitchen, bathrooms, foyer, laundry. Hardwood or laminate for other areas.

Hardwood. So much easier to clean. But easier to damage as well. I'd like to replace all the carpet in my home with hardwood.

Hard wood, but comes with a caveat. For my next house, I'm 100% getting heated floors in the bedroom. Holy hell, nothing worse than being in your nice warm bed then BAM you step on the floor in the winter and it's cold as hell.

Nice thick plush carpet. So nice to walk around on.

What kind of floor do I have?
I have 4 dogs so not a stitch of carpet in the house. A mixture between tile, hardwood and laminate. Love the hardwood!

Porcelain tile in bathrooms and kitchens.

Etched and sealed concrete in the basement with the option of area rugs.

Wood on all above ground rooms not covered by the previous 2 listed.

Sorry but carpet is gross, area rugs I can take outside and really get everything out of it or toss it if it gets too bad.

Hardwood...and not laminate. I'd have it everywhere except the bathroom.

Hardwood is too easy to get damaged. Vinyl laminate planking looks nearly as nice and has no maintenace other than mop it once in awhile. It can also be used in bathrooms since it wont warp or buckle if it gets wet and in the kitchen as well.

yea all

hardwood in most of it
VCT in the kitchen
Bathrooms have Marble tile
3rd floor is carpet
basement is painted concrete

My favorite is easily integrally colored, polished, hydronically heated concrete.

Warm in the winter, cool in the summer, durable, easy to maintain, and looks awesome when done right.

Concrete is GOAT.

Second place is good old oak. Cheap, hard, and long lasting. Just like amdhunter likes his men.

Vinyl or Linoleum
lowest maintenance
comfortable to walk on

wood lasts longer and looks nicer, but its not waterproof, and if you have pets that like to puke, will be much more maintenance.

If I had no pets, and if I planned never to have children, Id go with wood.

Hardwood with Oriental rugs.
Tile in the bathrooms and laundry/utility room.

I also like cork floors but I have a dog, so I don't have any in my house.
