Looking for something basic to spruce up my apt. My friend has a beta and she says they're really easy to take care of, and they're pretty good looking for something that cheap. Any suggestions on bowl size or type of fish? I'm a lazy college student so the simpler the better..

if you are going to get something that small, then beta are a good choice

beta and a few other gourami's are the only type of fish that you should keep in something tiny (my definition of tiny is anything under 10 gallon aquarium)

Beta fish is the way to go. You can buy them already in a bowl with the plant they feed from.

You mean I don't have to actually feed them? They eat from the plant? =o

yeah, you might have to change the water from time to time, but the fish eats algea that lives off the plants roots, iirc. or not....i find them boring, but when i was a kid we had a fairly large aquarium with dozens of small freshwater fish in it.

Tarantula's do make easier pets then fish (I have both), but the easiest fish is either a Betta or a goldfish... both get boring quick though, so my suggestion would be to snag a small Oscar, takes a bit more work but you'll still be interested in it in 6 months.
