Yup, I really want a Malamute or Husky, but would never own one in this climate. It would be cruel to me.

I had neighbors growing up that had a beautiful Husky that would stuff itself into a metal bucket (about 30 gallons?) of water just to cool off. Texas summers are brutal.

Go to the shelter/rescue and find a mutt that fits your wants. Adults 1+ year old are a lot easier to deal with.

uh, what? yes they are, I've owned two over the last 17 years, they are nothing but friendly and love attention. the only aggression i've ever seen is around other unfixed males.
