I have a horrible short-term memory too! However, I don't sweat it since my long-term memory compensates for the shortcoming. I am looking at my diet first before looking to conventional medicine. For my short-term memory, I am looking at foods rich in niacin and B1 (thiamine). I realized how important my diet was in the maintenance of good health. I am changing my habits and counting every nutrient. So start with the simple things first before considering consultation with the doctor. However, if you must go to the doctor, visit a general practitioner who will then refer you to the appropriate specialist. My general guess would be neurology since memory involves neurotransmitters, especially acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Good luck!
